Updated Weather Outlook for April 14th/ April 15th (Tonight- into Tomorrow Morning)
Folks,
I know there is already a thread up about the possibility of severe weather today, but the latest Storm Prediction Center forecast has brought KC closer to threat then what was originally expected. Here is the latest SPC map for today. For Kansas City (and areas close by) this looks like it could be more of an evening but most likely an overnight event. In some ways this could be a good thing; The storms having a chance to burn themselves out in Western and Central Kansas before they arrive here. However on the bad side, severe storms at night are the worst. Almost impossible to track tornadoes by eye, and it all comes down to trusting the radar system. It wouldn't surprise me if this turns into an extreme wind even with some risk for hail when it reaches the KC area, but be mindful that tornadoes will also be a factor. At this point it all depends on the timing, and how isolated these super cells that will be forming become. Today should be dry, but keep yourself prepared for this evening. Everyone be safe! http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html |

Updated forecast this morning looked like the majority of the tornados would go north / south of KC. The local weathermen, as well as weather.com, seem to think now our greatest threat will be hail. "Decent storms" was the term used, but they seem to be backing off earlier, "Wrath of God" like predictions.

Latest shows a LARGE "high risk" area stretching from the middle of Nebraska all the way down to the middle of Oklahoma. Could be a long day / night.

Hell, it is suicidal. We got caught up in the storms in Pratt on Memorial Day weekend four years ago. Never again. A couple from California who passed us ended up in a field 150 yards off the road literally minutes after we saw them. Luckily, we made the decision to stay in town and not continue.

Tornado watches have popped up all over the high risk area. Each watch area is a "Particularly Dangerous Situation". Kinda like a Super Tornado watch

Fox 4's website has cartoon like cars all over the radar map and if you click on the car you can see video from that spotter.

According to that, the nearest storm chaser to KC is north of Rock Port.
