Damn.
That's exactly why Dana doesn't let his guys fight boxers (like Anderson Silva vs Roy Jones). If they win, they beat a washed-up boxer. If they lose, it's an embarassment to UFC. Kobayashi Maru... |

Most decent club fighters would destroy MMA guys.

Most MMA guys don't have sufficient technique to beat someone who actually has honed his craft.

In his prime, Ray Mercer hit like a bus. Sounds like he still has some power. I guess the MMA guy will probably agree after he gets out of the hospital. FAX |

Mercer also lost to a streetfighter with about 6 months of MMA training in Kimbo Slice.
Huge props to a 48 year old Mercer for getting out there and beating a Sylvia. I just think at his age he isn't going to have great takedown/submission defense that you need to consistently beat top guys. |

Tim Sylvia never had a good chin. Ray Mercer always had a great right hand. I truly believe that anyfighter of relative weight can knock someone out with MMA gloves.

For sure...that was Mercer's only real chance and he capitalized.

I guess I'm just looking at it differently....Mercer has no ground game, no wrestling, no kicks. He had one weapon and it worked...Sylvia POTENTIALLY could have beat him in many different ways. Props to Mercer though for sure.

at least as you have decent defense to not be taken to the ground a boxer can win alot of fights in devastating fasion.
I think we will see this happen fairly soon. They will just learn to not let an opponent take them down and force the other guy to fight and uh oh, game over. Then again, you have to be really really good to not let some of them fighters take ya down. lol |
