Amsterdam/Prague Suggestions

I'm flying to Hamburg (and on to Amsterdam and Prague) in less than 24 hours and, as usual, I haven't booked a hotel yet. Any suggestions on a good budget (like $100) hotel in Amsterdam? The last time I was there I stayed in a 40 euro dive with the steepest staircase I've ever seen.

Also, any places I should hit in Prague? Best area to get a hotel in?

Haven't been there yet, but I'm planning a trip to Amsterdam and Prague in 2007...

Let me know how it goes.

If where you are staying, a guy with a big nose shows you pictures of hot chicks, trying to get you to go to Bratislava... don't.

The flying pig hostel in amsterdam is a good deal, but it could be the 40 euro dive you're talking about. How long are you in Prague? That would determine what I would recommend. I was just in both places last month.

Probably not, since the place I was in was a hotel, not a hostel.

We're staying 3 nights in Prague.

In terms of where to stay, all I can say is that I suggest trying to stay downtown in both cities. Amsterdam is easy to get around, but its more exciting to stay downtown there. As for Prague, it will be of great benefit in terms of tourist attractions for you to stay downtown. The outer edges of Prague can be harder to navigate, so your stay will be much easier if you're in the heart of the city.
In Amsterdam, I liked a lot of the museums and also the Heineken factory, and of course, the coffee shops.
In Prague, I would recommend going to bars that specialize in certain kinds of beer, like Gambrinus or Budvar. Other than that, check out Old Town Square, Prague Castle, and walk along the river. There are tons of cheap places to eat in Prague, so try to avoid the expensive tourist traps. Finally, one last thing to know about Prague is that you should negotiate the price of a cab ride before you get in. There aren't any meters or fixed rates, so its up to you to agree on a reasonable price if you're gonna ride one.
