Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I doubt he knows what a football looks like. Carr was it. There were a TON of busts CP wanted that are pure shit. To be honest, it worked perfectly. We got a Franchise stud waiting to take over a loaded team

Yeah, these are the guys I am going to listen to when they give their expert opinions on Alex Smith. Lol!
A whole bunch of Geno Smith lovers wanted Patrick Mahomes.

Dorsey and Reid both want Patrick Mahomes.

Anti-Geno fans have been saying for years, "I'm so glad Reid and Smith are making the decisions and not you! Can't trust Geno fans!"

You can't have ****ing both, asshole. Which one is it? Are Geno fans ALWAYS WRONG, or do you no longer trust Reid and Dorsey just because you love a piece of shit like Alex Smith?

Sig-worthy.

The Process Babies simply can not stomach how Dorsey and the Chiefs body-slammed their White Knight as well as their security blanket of tradition.
To have their last remnant of the Dilfer Philosophy crushed and swept away like so much refuse is a bitter pill to swallow.
To see their trusted GM and Head Coach fall in line with the proven philosophy of the QB1 Death Cult is just too much for their tender little anuses to handle.

Geno Smith had a lot of talent. Had he ended up in a different more stable locker room/coaching staff than with the Jets, who knows how he would have done?

Just because someone busts in 1 situation, doesn't mean he was destined to bust in ALL scenarios.

You think Mahomes is going to be a better player in the end with the Chiefs, or would he have the same results if he were draft by the Browns?

I wasn't against the Alex decision at first, I was actually happy and hopeful when it happened. I simply think the experiment went on for way too long after we figured out he was total ass. We all also knew time wasn't going to heal that decision and not drafting QBs was terribad.

And BTW, Alex is still our QB, all that's happened is we've drafted hope. And, unless Mahomes goes all Zach Prescott on the NFL, let's hope they maneuver as needed to take Drew Lock when he enters the draft.

But one has to wonder how many of "us" (you included) would have had a problem matching the Chief's GMs record(s) of no SB appearances in 48 years? With no way to prove it, you can argue that they've helped to provided a better winning percentage for the team in each of those 48 years, but I'd argue that we could all have at least matched helping the team to no SB appearances for 48 years.

No need to justify a sound argument.

And in the end, we won.

So there's that.

I've said it several times. It's the same basic premise now as it was in 2013:

Pick up a cheaper cast-off from another team (hell, even Chase Daniel) and lived with the slightly lower floor for a few seasons while they tried to find QB1. The Chiefs spent significant draft capital and significant salary space on Smith; if they spend half as much on a Carson Palmer or Chase Daniel or Ryan Fitzpatrick or Matt Moore, the team around the QB could have been improved even more.

The highlight of the Alex Smith era is the bombing of Houston in the playoffs, but literally any QB could have done that. The Chiefs could have handily won that game with the QB spiking the ball on every single play.

There have been some flashes here and there of the ability Andy Reid saw - the San Diego game last year, a half here and there, 3-4 games down the stretch in 2013 - but nothing consistent.

If they don't have Alex Smith on board, the Chiefs are more aggressive in pursuing Carr or Lynch or Bridgewater, etc. Maybe we still end up where we are now. No way to know.

^This.

Those who were pro-Geno at the time have stood by their reasoning without applying hindsight to it. In hindsight, yeah, he busted out. But sitting for 2-3 years while being tutored by Andy Reid, it might be an entirely different situation (and it is reasonable to suggest so).

But if you want to talk about liking him in 2013... at the time people were saying to pick him No. 1 overall, he was projected to go in the top 5-6. That had changed by the time of the draft, when it looked like he would be available at 2-1, and those of us who believed he had the raw tools to be an effective starter, with top 10-15 NFL QB potential, were still on board with drafting him at that lower cost.

Being wrong about a QB doesn't mean your reasoning behind liking that QB as a prospect is wrong. It's more nuanced than that.

Bingo. Exactly. Spot on. This is exactly why I roll my eyes every time I read the whole "we've had no other better options other than Carr since we acquired Alex." There is absolutely no way of knowing that and it's a straight up premature statement to make with these rookie QB's who have come and gone since we acquired him. Alex Smith was absolutely atrocious his first 6 seasons... before he started this conservative, "don't throw interceptions" kick he is still on. Geno is entering his 5th season.

Alex after his first 4 seasons in the NFL: 19 TD's, 31 INT's

Geno after his first 4 seasons in the NFL: 28 TD's, 36 INT's

Let's not act like the book is absolutely closed on Geno quite yet, for it wasn't closed on Alex at that stage in his career.

Clark Hunt needed to put butts in the seats in 2013 (following the blackouts of 2012). Alex Smith was the biggest name that was available at that time. Alex was a former first overall pick. He was on a 1.5 year stretch of playing conservatively and not throwing INT's...which fortunately for him, San Francisco's DEF was good enough during that time to win games with a QB who played that way. And he received a lot of attention from the media after controversially being benched for Kaepernick. He was the hottest available name. And mission accomplished. Butts filled the seats.

Who knows who else we could have done who with since acquiring Alex.

Welp, I can only speak for myself..

But I"m of the opinion that once the kid can call plays and knows the playbook, they should put him out there.

Once he has a level of comfort with the offense, waiting only postpones his development and the growing pains that will come with it.

You really wanna argue about the word now? You aee saying basically the same thing as me. You wouldnt put him in now, nor would 99% of us. That contrasts with what the other dipshit said...that everyone was clamoring to bench Alex.

I dont disagree with starting Mahomes when he is ready but by the estimations of those more in tbe know than me...that time isnt now, and its probably not this season. No one sane is suggesting to cut alex smith right now.
