Yeah that's just a weird situation. They never should have let him play last year if it was so bad. Suspending a guy, letting him come back and play, then kicking him off the team right after fall term starts doesn't make any sense.

But when senior night rolled around he said he told Fred he doesn't want to play this year because he's going to apply for an extra year somewhere else. He also said he would have went somewhere else no problem this year if the President didn't screw him over after school already started. Well that's my wording of it.

I don't think you understand it's Iowa State we're talking about.

Iowa.

State.

He's been building the program with a bunch of transfers and his coaching ability. Both of which are respectable. You aren't going to challenge KU for top of the B12 any time soon. You can't even beat out UNLV for a top prospect. The best kids don't want to go to Iowa State out of high school. Can you blame them?

That might change over the course of the next decade if Hoiberg builds up that program substantially more and doesn't bolt for a shinier NCAA or NBA job. Your recruiting class for next year isn't even in the Top 40. Transfers are good for the short term, but Fred is going to have to get some blue chip players in there sooner or later if you plan on actually winning this league and besting KU.

You guys have a good thing going right now, but your commitment to the concept that ISU is going to propel to the top of the B12 after this good year you've had is hilarious.

You realize Kansas lost out on that same recruit to UNLV right? And it's funny that KANSAS of all schools is saying you can't build a program at Iowa State.

Fred isn't just getting transfers. Niang, SDW, Morris, Thomas, and Custer were all ranked coming out of HS. Long was one of the best out of Canada who's putting out good players lately. He actually was the PG on a team with Wiggins and Anthony Bennett. Kane was our only transfer who played this year.

Iowa State is also one of ten teams to win a tournament game each of the last three years.

Smart's Win Share/40 rate is .225, while Ennis' WS/40 is .143, a gigantic difference. Smart's PER, TS%, TRB%, STL%, BLK%, TOV%, ORtg, and DRtg were also all better than Ennis. And their AST% were nearly identical (30.9 for Ennis, 30.2 for Smart). As I said before, the only thing that Ennis has on him as a basketball player is 3PT shooting. The value they provide overall really isn't all that close.

And Ennis was a freshman. And I did watch both play. And Ennis looked more in control and dependable than Smart. Smart plays his ****ing ass off every minute, which I love. But Ennis could easily be the better PG.
I love Ennis (with my Canadian background, I'm almost obligated to) and think he'll be a good NBA player, but he's not better than Smart. Guards as good as Smart don't come around all that often.

Just read Tolbert is transferring. That won't help them in the immediate timeframe.

I'm sure I'll hear it again next year too even though we only lose Hogue.
ISU is losing their two best players by far, though. They've shown an ability to bounce back, but to be as good as they were this year (when they still were worse than KU anyway, I should add)? Will be tough.

Niang and Ejim were the only two returners in the rotation. Clyburn, McGee and Babb were better than those two that year. Arguably even Lucious. They developed and got better, just like the current starting freshman will. And the transfers coming in. It's literally the same story every year. No way to replace so and so, but we do and we're even better.

Look at Kane before Iowa State. All of our transfers for that matter. Fred makes guys look really good, and will continue to do so.
