I've had Fat Cat for 2 1/2 years. I believe she's 8 or 9 years old. I was petting her the other day when I decided to check out her teeth. One of her fangs was missing. She's had some plaque buildup, but the vet didn't seem to be concerned with it when I took her last year. Anyway, I looked it up online, and I found that losing fangs isn't a big deal, as long as it's not due to gum disease. I noticed a lot of people talking about brushing their cat's teeth, so I looked that up as well. There are even instructional videos. I wasn't aware I was supposed to brush her teeth. It's time for her check-up, so I'm going to make sure I talk to the vet about it. Still, I feel bad that I haven't been properly caring for her.

That's what I thought, too. But after reading so much and viewing vets' instructional videos, I felt like maybe I was wrong in thinking that.

We rescued a kitten about five years ago. The wife took her to the vet and the vet stated that she needed to take all her teeth out because they were rotten. Something like $800? I called the vet and said, "What happens if we don't let you take her teeth out?"

The vet responded, "All her teeth will fall out."

Needless to say, we didn't do as the vet suggested, and the cat still has all her teeth.

the gums should be pink. slightly push on the gum. when you release your finger it should be white. If it stays white longer than 3 mississippi somethings up.

Works for dogs aswell. Merck vet manual-

You spent something like $5000 on a dog and then $2500 on a vet bill. You aren't allowed to laugh at the absurdity of vet charges.

The trick will be getting her to let me hold her mouth open long enough to do that.
