Scott Pioli sucks but...I guess it could be worse.

Jerry Jones says being owner leaves him free to risk losses as GM: 'I can ... come back for more'

One of the reasons Jerry Jones has job security as the Cowboys general manager is that he believes he is free to take risks, also being the owner.

“That is one of the luxuries of my position as owner as well as the ultimate decision maker, general manager and president – I can do that and take the losses and come back for more,”
he said this week at Valley Ranch, talking about his management style.

“I have won with that style,” he said. “We are not managing a widow-woman’s retirement account here. In other words, to compete, I think we need to be aggressive. You play the game, you manage the game that way. You take some risks. When they don’t pay off, they look bad. That has happened.”

The conversation began when reporters asked Jones why fans are divided about quarterback Tony Romo. Jones said it goes with the position, with the Cowboys, and with their image.

“We have a pattern of that. We have a precedent of that,” he said. “Aikman didn’t have to have it long because he won it pretty quickly, to his credit. He played at a high level quickly. His predecessors had it, certainly with Roger Staubach. You had it with Danny White. And you had it as far back as Don Meredith. It was so intense, that the criticism probably contributed to an early retirement of Don Meredith.”

Asked why Cowboys quarterbacks get such criticism, perhaps more than quarterbacks on other teams, Jones said, “We push a lot on the table with the Cowboys. Picture going to Las Vegas and putting an inordinate amount on the table with every hand. We do that, and I am a part of that. When you do that and you don’t have the right hand, then you subject yourself to a lot more criticism.”

Totally stupid for Chiefs fans to look longingly at Dallas fans. Their last playoff win was when, again? Oh, yeah...

I've said before it's too bad we can't pick ownership. Dallas and Jax are incredibly lucky to have the owners they do. And now Cleveland..

This ALL DAY LONG

Cowboys and Redskins had backup players that were better than most teams starters. Look at the 80's Redskin era.....The Hogs had linemen backups that could have started on any other NFL team.

Salary Cap has proven to be a useful tool to keep people like JJ in check most of the time IMO.

Not reading the thread.

Jerry Jones is becoming Al Davis part 2.

Edit: Read the thread. Point still stands. Jerruh has a bad habit in recent years of falling in love with great athletes who aren't always the best football players.

Is there any way we can get Mark Cuban to buy the Chiefs? If there was any owner I'd like to have it be Mark Cuban.

Love him or hate him, I'll say one thing for Jones. He's not afraid to pull the trigger to win. I'd have to say the NFC East is, and has been for a lot of years, the toughest division in the NFL. For the most part, the Cowboys have been competitive. Can you say that about the Chiefs?
And yes, can we have Mark Cuban for our owner?

If I could pick any ownership to model after, it's the Packers. They are owned in a unique way that would work here.

I don't have to explain a damn thing to your dumb ass.

First, I don't know who or what "FecesKoolaid " is, and second, unlike your dumb ass, I was never on board with hiring Scott Pioli to begin with.

It is really sad that you are too stupid to read and comprehend that simple fact.

And this is why Jerry Jones is a better owner than Clark Hunt

Calvin Watkins ‏@calvinwatkins
Jerry Jones: "This is just frustrating. This is disappointing & frustrating. A lot of people in here had a hand with losing this ballgame."

Jerry Jones expects better. Clark Hunt expects $$$

Jerry Jones expects better.

Jerry Jones is willing to do what he thinks is necessary to get the pieces he thinks he needs to win with.

But Jerry Jones is just a bad personnel guy, and he should fire himself as GM and hire someone that can actually evaluate talent.

But Jerry Jones won't do that, so the Cowboys, in spite of all the passion Jones has, and all the efforting he does to build a championship team, will be mired in mediocrity until the day he dies, in all likelyhood.
