So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

Yeah, I wanted Geno. Big time. But I also understand what Dorsey and Reid are attempting to do with this team right from the get go in terms of building respectability and credibility right out of the gate and I believe that Alex Smith was the best possible option for this team in that regard at the QB position.

This team, as it currently stands today, is capable of winning the AFC West. On offense, there is a very good, young offensive line, the second best running back in the league, a top five wide receiver and a nice supporting cast with decent options beyond Charles and Bowe.

On defense, we have one of, if not the best pass rush tandem in the NFL in Houston and Hali, which, combined with Derrick Johnson and Nico Johnson should be the best linebacking corps in the entire league. We have one of the top cornerbacks in Flowers, a very good strong safety in Berry and DeVito and Sean Smith bring experience and decent production without excessive age. Robinson will be a good nickel. Poe/Powe have upside.

Our special teams should be very good at the very least.

And if Alex Smith can provide the level of production that he was delivering in 2011 and 2012 with the 49ers, this is going to be a pretty darn good team. As I stated, all this team needed was consistency and accuracy from the QB position. We haven't had that in nearly 10 seasons, and that is Smith's forte. He's very accurate and has good timing. Our big receivers, tight ends and slot guys should flourish versus the Cassel period when even five yard bubble screens would sail over the receivers head with regularity.
