2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

There are a lot of Royals\SKC fans but there is also a huge contingent of SKC fans that simply hate the game of baseball. Soccer shares a ton less mutual fans with baseball than it does football they are so different. Haha, I know they talk to the Royals a lot. I think a more likely situation is them dipping their toes in the water with a minor league team.

But if you are *really* interested in what this guy is like as an owner check out this video. This is at a rally before our playoff run that ended in the conference title game. Alot of people wonder why I am annoyingly crazy about this team...its one of the reasons. It is a lil rah rah at first and gets a lil more interesting at 2:00 in.

"I was not performing. I was not doing my job"

One more thing and I will stop polluting your baseball thread but people seem interested. When SKC was knocked out of the playoffs last year he was distraught like...the whole thing was quite a scene.

This photo was taken 25 mins after the loss that ended our season. All of the fans in the supporters section were still there and he game down and looked them all in the eye and applauded what they had done all season.

We are waiting on Myers to play in the Futures Game to get more hype for the AS weekend. It is stupid but it is what it is. I expect he will be up right after the ASB with Odorizzi potentially up then too.

Great vid that Zach just posted.

Honestly, i dont care if the Royals owner lived in Iran. I just want a guy who wants to WIN, is passionate about it and will except nothing less.

The mind boggles.....

Like I stated earlier, the Royals act as if they are some veteran team in 1st place cruising to their 5th playoff appearance in 7 seasons.

When is the soonest we can bring up Myers without losing a year of eligibility on him? I know they brought up Moose and Hosmer last year early knowing they would possibly lose them a year early. Could this be playing in the decision to keep Myers down? I would rather bring him up when we can and play him in RF and see what kind of pitcher we can get in a trade for Frenchy, Sanchez, a bullpen arm, and a prospect or two.

Any type of Trade for a decent pitcher would have to involve Broxton or Myers I would think?

That sucks because we have a good number of bullpen arms and could afford to part with one and with Myers coming up, there is no real need for Frenchy anymore.

The only way I can justify starting Frenchy is if Dayton knows another team is interested in him. That being said, its hard to believe anyone would trade anything at all for Frenchy the way he's been hitting this year.

I wouldn't mind exploring what we could get for Broxton. Sell high

That time is late April/early May, so it has already passed for Myers.

If we brought him up today, we would have control of him from 2012-2018. If we leave him down until September and start him in AAA next year until late April/early May, we will have control of him for 2019 as well.
