I don't think anybody would enjoy firing someone that didn't truly deserve it unless they were an asshole.

That is always disheartening to hear.
Personally, I'd never take joy in removing a man/woman from their means of income without good reason.

I too have wondered if being fired would be horrible on your resume.
One of my best friends is a comm major who did his job well, but the company was small and needed a more experience guy. Only there 3 months in his first job out of school. Now he's been 4 months without any luck and I'm not sure what to tell him. It's brutal out there.
