Maybe the back looks ok now but they feel it's going to be a problem again once the hitting starts again. He would pass his new team's physical but there is a certain amount of prediction that the Chiefs have that the new team wouldn't.

i'm just trying understand why they might be doing this

Some team franchised Gaither and then tried to trade him for a 2nd after the back injury?

Sounds pretty stupid to risk paying a guy you believe has a bad back 10 mil per year if someone doesn't cough up a high pick. Especially with glass QB.

I dont think he's expendable. And i dont think thats really overpaying him. You have to overpay in the NFL. Fact. You do have to trust your doctors though.
