From 1964 to 67 I worked at a high volume Vickers Station while in high school. We were always in a gas war with Hudson oil. It got down to $.17. We did not have sevens for both sides of our backlit sign so I made one out of cardboard. At night it looked like a one, so from a distance it looked like our price was .11. We had cars backed up for blocks, they would come in and pull back out when they saw it was .17 on the pump. Of course we washed the windows, vacuumed the car and checked the oil!

I worked at a Zarda gas station in the late 70's and remember it around $.50 - $.59 a gallon.

The lowest I can remember seeing it (assuming I didn't notice it when it was lower and I was really young) was about $.50 a gallon in the 70s.
The lowest I can remember paying was about $.75 a gallon back in the 90s, when I was in Kirksville for the weekend and all the gas stations were involved in a city-wide price war. That was awesome. It was about $.40 a gallon higher in every surrounding town. It'll be $.75 a QUART soon enough. Goddamn Arabs. |

I'm fairly sure it was about 50-60 cents a gallon when I started driving. All I remember is that I drove a VW Bug and it took about five dollars to fill the tank when it was low.
