The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Alex Smith has played in 80 games. 2,177 career attempts.

There isn't a whole lotta ****ing difference....except Cassel throws more TDs......in fewer attempts.

WOW i didn't think Cassel played in as many games as Smith.

One thing that makes me think Alex can actually be more than a game manager here, is that although Harbaugh has had success with QB's (Luck, Kaep, Smith etc), his system isn't really built for the Qb to excel.

He's a power based fundamental football coach, that has alot of experience with the QB spot. They really are the 90's Chiefs with a better QB.

This isn't like upgrading from Mike Brown to Eric Berry or Damien McIntosh to Branden Albert. This is an already solid, adequate, and good player at starting LT that is being booted out the door all so we can draft in the name of "value" at the top of the draft.

It's a shitty move that places HUGE expectations and pressure on Joeckel/Fisher to play lights out. It's almost no different than drafting Tyson Jackson at #3 overall-- the amount of pressure and expectation placed on Jackson to play lights out was very high in order for him to be worth that top 5 selection.

These guys are going to have huge expectations no matter what just like every top 10 pick.

I think Albert is a decent LT. Top 10? Eh maybe. Starting to believe he isn't when looking around the league. PFF ranked him 17th and he was in a run first system. Maybe Reid doesn't think he'll fare as well in his aggressive passing offense?

I'm tired of him being injured nearly every year too.

Alex Smith may have had injury problems too, but unlike Albert, there is no solid replacement for him at this time.

I don't really think that is a predictor so much though. It doesn't really effect this years 2nd round QB's.

He excels as a pass blocker and isn't as good of a run blocker. He isn't a mauler type guy, which is what Reid seems to favor.

But neither is Joeckel and thats who they are going to pick, so who ****ing knows.

Its a been pretty damn good predictor over the years.
