Ok, I've About Had it With Netflix. It's starting to Suck.

Is it just me, or is Netflix starting to suck more and more balls with every passing day?! They keep taking these shows that my wife and I like off and it seems as if their mission is to get to the point where every movie, documentary and TV series is a Netflix original. And maybe it's just me, but I haven't watched any Netflix original series shows that I've been very thrilled about. First one I watched was Orange is the New Black. That show is alright, but if you were an "Oz" fanatic in the prior to watching it, it is difficult to be that thrilled about OITNB...and Prison Break. I can't even get through this latest season. The entire thing seems to be based on a riot that I lost interest in after an episode or two. And the couple-few Netflix series I've tried since, just hasn't kept my attention. This may because I have a bad attitude coming in about Netflix and haven't been able to shake it. To be fair, I probably haven't been giving the shows much of a chance because I am pissed at Netflix. My wife is really in to Stranger Things right now...she told me I would like it...I am having a difficult time forcing myself to watch it...and she is pretty good about knowing which shows I would like...so I really think it is an anti-Netflix bias.

So Netflix initially ruffled my feathers in a major way when they didn't renew the 30 for30's. I love 30 for 30's...I can watch them over and over. That started it all for me. Now I don't know where to watch them...and I refuse to buy cable/satellite in my town.

Then suddenly, a couple of my favorites; Malcolm In the Middle and The Wonder Years were taken off. That really, really pissed me off. 3 out of the 5 shows I watch more than anything on Netflix (The Office and Always Sunny being the other 2), all taken off...just like nothing. Those were all go-to shows to watch when I wanted to relax on a stressful day...always put me at ease. And my wife is upset about 30 Rock being taken down.

Thank goodness Hulu is stepping up and claiming some of these. Huge fan of Hulu right now.

Eventually, so may only be a subscribe to Hulu and HBO Now. I've about had it with Netflix.

Is that what Netflix is doing? Gravitating towards being exclusively Netflix originals? Because it sure seems like it. I knew it was too good to be true to have access to those great shows for well, more years.

The straw that will break the camel's back for me will be when they take The Office down. I have every season's DVD and everything, but I don't feel like whipping out one of my DVD players just because Netflix sucks. My wife and I watch The Office every day/night when we go to sleep. We have for the past 6-7 years... it's like our bedtime lullaby. At least with Always Sunny, I think Hulu will still have it.

I don't know where to watch The Wonder Years now. What, is it finally on DVD or something?!!

Ugh. Anyone else frustrated with this?

I think South Park was on to something a couple weeks ago when they jabbed at Netflix, teasing them for seemingly accepting any Netflix Orignal Series that is pitched to them.

yep. agree.

lots of Steven Segal / Dolph Lungren type garbage in the 'action' genre.

I think the movie "Sausage Party' was the only 'newer' movie in the Comedy section that I can recall being in the theater. Most others I've never heard of, or they're 10+ years old.

Bummer.

I'm getting fed up with television options in general. I'm a dinosaur with Comcast, and it seems like any show I want to watch pops up with a charge, which I then immediately cancel out of. They're charging me a fortune and I feel like all I get is the four big networks, a bunch of shopping channels, and Spanish-language television.

It's my understanding that Netflix has slowly been gouged when it comes to price for access to movies, or timing of access (signs on Redbox started to show up saying "30 days before Netflix!" a while back). Netflix found it's cheaper and easier to create their own content, something HBO figured out a while back.

I think there is also a difference between streaming options and DVD options. A lot more titles are available through the old mail service (assuming that even exists anymore).

You also have to remember that Netflix was ahead of the curve on streaming movies and shows. Every other media organization has been watching as Netflix rakes in money and now they want a piece of the pie. So companies like Disney, CBS, etc are all launching their own streaming services. That means they don't re-up with Netflix and instead opt to keep their properties exclusive.

In the end however, I don't know how well it will work. I subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime because I have a lot at my disposal. I'm never going to pay a monthly fee to 7 different providers to get all the different shows and movies I like. I'll just stop watching television completely.

Aside from their original content, I do agree the rest of their catalog often sucks donkey dung. I'll put it this way. Any time I've thought "Hey I wanna watch this show/movie. Wonder if Netflix has it." They almost never do. But they have tons and tons of shitty SyFy channel quality movies.

Netflix is a well run company that understands the situation.

With parent companies now starting their own streaming services, the list of films and shows they can get on their platform is shrinking while the list of streaming services is exploding.

So they're doing what every other parent company does... trying to build an in house brand that will draw people in.

Netflix isn't much different than it's been for the past few years, but it simply can't return to what it used to be and they understand that.

I haven't had cable since 2002.

Haven't missed it either. I find ways to watch shows I really want to watch, and there's only a few.

The only reason to have Netflix, IMO, is due to the original content. While I enjoy the documentaries and my kids enjoy some of their programming (most of which can be found on Disney & Nickelodeon, both of which are in our Direct TV package), I don't really subscribe to watch old TV programs or recently released films.

IMO, Amazon is far weaker in its offerings and original programming but since it's included with Prime, I guess it's a bonus.

As for Hulu, I hinted a few weeks ago that a major announcement would be upcoming that passed: College students are now offered Hulu for $5.99 a month, as is Spotify.

According to my source (and I'll be happy to name that source in PM, LOL), these rates will be offered to the generally public in the next 6 months.

I gotta disagree with the OP. imo Netflix is only getting better .

Next year , Scorsese has a film coming out on Netflix called The Irishman . Plus theres a whole lot of other potentially good shit they will be releasing.
I dig their shows as well (Mindhunter, Narcos, Stranger Things etc etc)

In the old days, there were three networks and they produced all of their own content and did their own delivery of content.

Then we started getting all sorts of new delivery mechanisms, and they distributed content from the original three producers, as well as movies.

Now it seems like we're moving back to the old model where delivery and production are unified. However, we now have more companies doing it, and now we're being charged for delivery by each of those companies instead of delivery being funded by advertising. The few places that do only delivery (e.g., cable and subscription services) are slowly going out of business.

So what's next? We've essentially been moving in a big circle, with the end result to date being the fragmentation of both delivery and content. It seems like consolidation is the natural next phase, so some of these companies will go out of business or get acquired.

You need to see about getting off that shift bro, it's not right to work those hours your natural body clock its confused and yes when I worked it I did seem tired and unrested all the time. Also everyone thinks you sleep all day when actually you aren't sleeping but tossing and turning.

A few years back I had a chance to get on at a company for good money but it was for third shift, and it looked like I would be on it for years with no chance to get off it.

Of course I refused it was a no brainer to me. Also thank God the company was bought out and the plant closed a couple years ago.

I'd like to see a true À la carte service. I think I would only have 15 channels then but the channels that they know most people would want would charge higher rates and I'd probably be spending close to the same money anyway.
