First kid is a-comin' tonight/tomorrow!

Wife is being induced this evening. We're having a girl and her name is going to be Lily. Very excited. My wife, maybe not so much...

Already have her Kansas City Chiefs onesie set aside.
(Yes, it's child abuse. )

I've talked with my boss about it and he said to enjoy the young years because when they're teens, they won't even want to bug you. They'll wanna be left alone. I'm sorta ready for it though, I'm ready for them to be in school and/or be able to be alone when I want to go to the gas station. Or send them to soccer so I can go golf. Anything to get a semblance of my freedom back.

Then why the **** did you have a kid? Honest question.

You're whimping out with this response here. Everything you do has positives and minuses. Why are you still a Chiefs fan? Honest question.

No....it was an honest question. If you were living it up without kids.....why have them? It's not like it's not common knowledge that your priorities change when you have a kid. It's pretty well known that your free time goes out the ****ing window after they're born.

And I haven't denied that there are positives and minuses to being a Dad. But I haven't really seen you talk about one positive yet. It's all about how you can't wait until they're older so you can go do whatever it is you want to do.

Yes. And by help out....I mean that when they want to see my kids....they stop over and see them. They don't offer to watch my kids over night. My Dad watches my kids during the day while I'm at work...and he gets paid for that.....just like a daycare. I don't pawn my kids off on my parents so that I can go out and do whatever I want.

well, I was living on my own when I was 16. graduated hs early while attending college classes. so, I may not have had the "time in" experience that you did, but I kinda had a shitload of it crunched up together.

again, i'm not saying one of us is right and one is wrong. different strokes and whatnot. I just never went through any time where I thought I was missing out on anything. maybe I was just tired and thought I was content?

That's a huge difference from me, since my spouse & I have zero help from family. I'm not blaming anyone, just stating that the happiest parents I know in my circle of friends & acquaintances nearly ALWAYS have an active family or inlaw (particularly the wife's mother) who helps out a lot. Those who have little help are usually miserable.

If you are able to so much as go see a movie with your wife for a couple hours, that's more than a lot of parents get. Don't act like that's not a huge deal, and that you'd be ok if that vanished one day.

I don't quite have as harsh of an opinion as PB but I agree that the first few years with the kids were the toughest. I never really related well to small children and that included my own. It was much better once they were around 8 or so on.

I dreaded the teen years but that has been my favorite time. My oldest is graduating in a month and half and heading off to college in the fall and I'm kind of bummed about it.

As for going out, we weren't jetsetting around the world or anything but we just took the kids with us. They behaved well in restaurants and traveled well. Other than hauling all of their crap around, it wasn't a big deal.

Then, once they were out of diapers, we hired the neighbor girl occasionally to babysit so my wife and I could go out alone.

It's pretty hard for boys to sit still though when they're in a movie or restaurant. Although I remember them watching the movie "Cars" in rapt attention. They didn't flinch for 2 hours straight. It was really mind blowing how that movie made them finally sit still.

I'm ready for the neighbor girl to come over and meet my needs.
