Ehh.. it happens all the time. It's unusual for someone to come out and say it though.

If my boss gave me $37 million to try and motivate me, I would immediately give my notice and remain retired for life.

Hey I think that is just being honest. He worked hard to get where he got then got paid and decided hey thanks I'm good now and can live comfortable the rest of my life thank again see ya.

They gave him guarantee and if they didn't do that then he would have had the incentive to try harder to make sure he got paid.

I don't think it's an excuse for him at all just strait up being honest that he is going take the low easy road. Call it steeling if you want but he took the money and ran.
