OLB Derrick Johnson and S Michael Huff

These are the 2 guys I hope the Chiefs draft in the 1st two rounds.

First off here's Round 1 :

Derrick Johnson

Official Bio
College: Texas
Position: Outside Linebacker
Height: 6-4
Weight: 230
Class: Senior 40-Yard: 4.50

SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths: A playmaker in every sense of the word...Great tackler...Makes play sideline-to-sideline...Excellent instincts...More than holds his own in coverage and has fluid hips...Highly productive...Explosive athlete...Very good when blitzing and pursues well...Always around the action...Has a knack for making the big play.

Weaknesses: Could stand to add some weight and bulk up...Struggles to take on blocks...Will ignore his assignment at times in an effort to make a play.

Notes: May have been the first linebacker selected had he come out after his junior season...Has a brother (Dwight) who played in the NFL and is the cousin of Kevin (Ex-Florida St.) and Ben Emanuel (UCLA)...One of the best linebacker prospects to come along in years.

Round 2

Michael Huff

Official Bio
College: Texas
Position: Safety
Height: 6-1
Weight: 200
Class: Junior
40-Yard: 4.45

SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths: Great size and solid build...Excellent athletic ability...Good speed...Physical and aggressive...Has a nose for the ball...Versatile and has played both cornerback and safety well for the Longhorns...Playmaker with a knack for taking interceptions to the house.

Weaknesses: Has been shuffled around and hasn't been able to concentrate on just one position...Needs to refine his technique...Gambles a little too much in an effort to make the big play.

Notes: Follows in the footsteps of Bryant Westbrook, Quentin Jammer and Nathan Vasher as top Texas defensive backs...Intriguing player who will be a top prospect at either corner or safety when he comes out.

Huff is pretty damn good, but the safety class this year is extremely deep. Jerome looks to have fallen off tremendously, so grabbing a saefty is necessary, but I don't know if I'd be taking a safety in the 2nd as no one has really stuck out to me this year like Sean Taylor did.

IF Johnson is available, I'd draft him for sure. Then, I'd move Battle to Safety and sign a starting FA CB and move Bartee to Nickle. Course, I would have signed a starting FA CB this past off season, as there were many, so we wouldn't need as much next off season. But what do I know?

I think Huff will be there in the 2nd.

Other guys I like:

Vincent Fuller from Virginia Tech
Donte Nicholson from Oklahoma
Andre Maddox from NC State
Atari Bigby from UCF
Jamaal Brimmer from UNLV

And then there are several others in a tier below that. Last I read, some "experts" had other guys like Thomas David from Georgia and James Butler from Georgia Tech ranked high, but I haven't seen enough of them to make any judgment.

I don't fancy myself a draft guru of any type, but I don't see a safety out there that jumps out above the others. That said, the safeties in this draft are very talented.

Not to sound like a Homer but Diamond Ferri from Syracuse is sick. Makes big plays and is a converted running back with excellent hands and ball stripping technique.

Defense: The defense is led by hard-hitting and athletic safeties Diamond Ferri and Anthony Smith. With off-field troubles in his past, Ferri should excel in his second season at strong safety and has been named to the watch list for the Nagurski Award, given annually to the nation's outstanding defensive player. A converted running back, Ferri looks to follow in the footsteps of Tebucky Jones, who was able to parlay a position change from running back to safety into professional football stardom. Ferri is a talented run stopper, who will also have the opportunity to prove his coverage skills early in the season against Purdue. Entering his second season as the starting free safety is Smith. Rated as one of the top junior safeties in the country, look for Smith to have a breakout season and enter his senior campaign as an NFL Draft first-day prospect. The line-backing corps will be solid, led by talented outside linebackers Kellen Pruitt and Kelvin Smith. Both players were named to the Butkus Award watch list and will need to step up following the departure of team leader Rich Scanlon. The nephew of Tennessee Titan All-Pro Keith Bulluck, look for Smith to have a big season and establish a name for himself among college football insiders. The middle linebacker position is expected to be filled by Jerry Mackey. The great nephew of SU legend John Mackey, Jerry Mackey completes the trio of linebackers who will be tested early.

Here's a little more on him from nfldraftblitz.com. I included the linebacker section for Roy since it says Rich Scanlon in it

As long as I'm jocking SU players I have to throw Walter Reyes out there as a late round pick. He's been down a little this year but he's missed two games. He has the second best season at Syracuse by a running back last year. Considering that it was better than any season on the hill by Jim Brown, Larry Czsonka, Floyd Little, or Ernie Davis that's quite an accomplishment. He's got good hands and reminds me a lot of Priest. He might be a nice pick-up if we lose Blaylock to free agency or somehow manage to trade LJ.

We may not have a 2nd round pick if we trade up to get Johnson. We might end up 5-11 or 6-10 which might put us out of the running with our own pick.

i think a LB named Derrick will be too hard to pass up... especially when one like DJ doesnt come around all that often.

We definitely do not need Huff, we should let either Bartee or Battle play their natural position of safety. If we get a high enough pick Antrel Rolle is the best pickup. No more one year wonders like Ben Johnson
