New York Jets Interested In Geno Smith?

Former West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Geno Smith is widely regarded as the top quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft class and he has been receiving interest from a number of teams that are selecting in the top ten. The most recent team to throw their hat in the mix for Smith is the New York Jets.

Jets senior personnel executive Terry Bradway and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg attended Smith’s Pro Day at West Virginia.

Not only did Bradway and Mornhinweg attend the Pro Day, but they spent private time with the quarterback, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. According to Cimini’s report, the Jets contingent came away impressed.
The question is whether or not the Jets would trade up in the draft to acquire Smith, since he will likely be off the draft board before the Jets pick at No. 9.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals have already expressed their interest in Smith, so New York would have to make a move if they would like to land the WVU product. That is highly unlikely.

Expect the Jets to move forward with Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Tim Tebow as their quarterbacks.

The positive news for New York fans? The Jets seem to be looking at their options at the position moving forward.

This. People here like to conveniently forget that there is likely one or two players Reid wants in the first round a lot. And neither will be there at 9.

If the Jets complete the Darrelle Revis trade, they would have an extra first rounder to deal with KC for the top pick. Would certainly make pulling the trigger much easier for the Jets.

I think it's ALL a smokescreen.

I think the offseason FA plan was to fill all gaping holes so that you really could draft best player available and not think twice.

I think that Reid and Dorsey would like to trade down and acquire more picks but would be quite content taking the best player at #1 if that's how it plays out. I don't for a minute think that means a LT. I think they'd take Geno and not look back.

I don't for a minute think they're intending to trade Albert for a #2. I DO think they'd like to float that in case someone really wants Joekel or Geno.

I think it's all maximizing the worth of that pick for possible trade, and I think they're content to go with the flow either way. Maddening, but probably smart.

Geno may be the ONLY guy worth a top ten pick at qb in this draft and 7 or 8 of the teams in the top ten NEED a franchise quarterback.

Somebody is gonna dive in the deep end and go all in on Geno Smith.

I'm not sure why this makes you happy. It should make Chiefs fans happy. The more interest you show, the less likely it is Geno will actually be a Jag. Somebody is going to have to trade to 1.1 for Geno.
