Oscar Pistorius Trial
I did a search and didn't see a thread on it.
Anyone else following this? I'm truly baffled by this case. The defense isn't great but the prosecutors aren't proving that it was "murder". Also interesting to follow a court system in another country. You know, barring actual evidence of an intruder, it's ridiculous that the possibility exists that he wouldn't get murder.
His picking up of the victim card destroyed all give a **** for me.

Very true, remember - there's no jury.

Due to his breakdown on the stand, the trial is being adjourned until tomorrow.
This court is so weird, doesn't make sense at most times.

Goes to bed. Girlfriend in bed.
Wakes up. Girlfriend not in bed. Hears noise in bathroom. Gets gun and fires shots into bathroom. This seems pretty normal doesn't it? |

His story is also ridiculous. It should be an easy conviction. I don't know what the rules of court and burden of proof is in South Africa, but in the US you only need to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Some people get that wrong and think you have to prove guilt "beyond a shadow of a doubt", but that phrase does not exist in the law. Many murder cases have a defense where the explanation or alibi could theoretically be possible, but you have to ask yourself if its reasonable to believe that it could be true, given what we do know about him: that he's a stupid hothead, and the problems he was having with his girlfriend. If its not a reasonable doubt, he's guilty.

From what I've seen, this guy doesn't have a leg to stand on.
Have we already done this? Seems like we have. |

I haven't been following daily...just articles and a few news reports. I think his is guilty ans a POS that should do hard time. BUT, from what I've seen/read of the trial the prosecution is doing a poor job and several of their key witnesses/experts have been shredded under cross. I don't know what the burden is for the prosecution but they may be falling short.
