I think you're wrong here. Quadcopters are remarkably stable and nimble already, and Amazon isn't the kind of company to mess up technology which is already good - if anything, they'll improve it.

A more general reaction: there are a ton of concerns for this sort of undertaking, but I always like it when modern technology is finally adopted into common processes. I worry a bit about smaller brick-and-mortar stores suffering as a result of something this advanced and convenient, but it wouldn't be the first time that they've had to adapt.

I think they said that these things are being used for traffic cameras in some places, so they'd have to be able to handle the wind and weather.

Where I see this really working well would be for groceries.

I could have a standing order every week of all the items I need, and a drone drops the package off automatically, they bill my debit card, boom. Shopping done.

Maybe I could even ask for it to show up Saturday morning so I'm sure I will be home.

Oh, god. I hadn't even thought about that. I would do a MUCH better job of cooking healthy things for myself if I could eliminate the need to make an errand out of going to the store and planning meals out so that the fruit/veggies don't go bad. Order my ingredients before I leave work, then come home to a basket of stuff ready to cook.

You realize Google has cars that can drive themselves all over the place safely, right? If they can do that, I'm pretty confident Amazon can identify a way to have a drone identify a door and aim for it.

More than one package, drones which are capable of heavier lifting, no liquids, etc etc.

I should have been clearer. Not that they can't be precise, but I thought I read that they were planned to be largely automated--without a "pilot" and delivering to GPS coordinates. In order to get it exactly on someone's porch seems like you would need a pilot manually guiding it the last 100 feet or whatever.

There's already tech in use today like automated facial recognition from video. I'm sure Amazon could put a small camera on the drone and program them to recognize the shape of the house and place the package as close as possible.
