Your final 53

Call your final 53. Be prepared to defend your roster.

OFF (25)
QB (2) Mahomes, Henne
RB (3) CEH, McKinnon, Williams
FB (0)
WR (6) Hill, Hardman, Pringle, DRob, Fountain, Kemp
TE (4) Kelce, Bell, Fortson, Gray
OT (4) Brown, Niang, Remmers, PTW
OG (4) Thuney, Smith, LDT, Allegretti
C (2) Humphrey, Blythe
DEF (25)
DE (6) Clark, Jones, Okafor, Danna, Kaindoh, T. Ward, Harris
DT (4) Nnadi, Reed, Wharton, Saunders
LB (5) Gay, Hitchens, Bolton, Niemann, Cobb
CB (6) Sneed, C. Ward, Fenton, Hughes, Keyes, Baker
S (4) Mathieu, Sorenson, Thornhill, Watts
ST (3)
Winchester, Townsend, Butker
My logic is:
Williams over Gore since Williams is a good blocker. No FB because both Gray and Fortson can play H-back. LDT is too expensive to cut. Allegretti and Blythe can both play C/G. I never want to see Wylie in a Chiefs uniform again and the Prince looks good. DRob and Kemp because there's no one else. Blythe can be put on IR after the final roster for a pick up.
Jones can play inside and out, so it's really 5 and 5 on the D-line. I question Clark's future. Cobb over DOD any day of the week.
I'd like to figure out some way to keep Buechele, but I can't seem to find a viable cut. I'm not sure I want to part ways with either Bell or Blythe just yet.

I think he makes it through waivers. A lot of teams passed on him a lot of times in the draft, and I can't see anything from the preseason that's going to tempt them.

I reckon they risk moving him to the PS, and I hope they do. He's been disappointing but I liked the pick at the time and frankly for that low in the draft, I shouldn't be surprised at how it's gone so far. Risk him on the PS, see if he develops, if not cut your losses. The occasional whiff in the latter rounds seems fine.

I think they know what they have in Powell and their whole strategy was to stash him on PS and let him develop, it's really the only explanation as to why he didn't get much playing time. We get an injury then he provides depth. I don't see a team taking him to put on their 53.

QB (2) P. Mahomes, C. Henne

DE (6) F. Clark, C. Jones, T. Ward, M. Danna, D. Harris, J. Kaindoh
DT (4) J. Reed, D. Nnadi, K. Saunders, T. Wharton
LB (5) A. Hitchens, W. Gay Jr, N. Bolton, B. Niemann, O. Cobb
CB (5) L. Sneed, C. Ward, M. Hughes, D. Baker, R. Fenton
S (4) T. Mathieu, J. Thornhill, D. Sorensen, A. Watts

PUP: OL K. Long
NFI: DE M. Herring

CUTS (PS Underlined):
QB S. Buechele, RB D. Gore, WR C. Powell, WR G. Dieter, WR M. Ffrench, WR D. Schoen, WR D. Shepherd, OT P. Tega Wanogho, OG Y. Durant, OG A. Blythe, OT W. Miller, OC D. Williams, DE A. Okafor, DT T. Clark, LB D. O'Daniel, LB R. Cole, CB B. Keyes, CB C. Lammons, CB D. Bootle, CB Z. Anderson, S D. Key, S R. Clemons, S M. Character

Notes:
It's not generally a Reid practice to carry 10+ OL and I'm not sure he does it now. I think the Chiefs will make a choice between keeping Blythe or LDT and then put whomever they do on IR on Sept 1 and bring up Durant from the PS (pending waivers). Blythe has a bit more flexibility but I think LDT is the better player, plus he's been in the system and has guaranteed money.

I have the Chiefs rolling with 5 RBs but it's more of an early season protection than the ideal.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that Forston has made this team. Grey has enough updside he probably doesn't get cut. That leaves Bell as the big decision, and I just feel like he's a better blocker than anyone else. I think Reid rolls with 4 TEs and develops sets that use them more.

Fountain, in my opinion, is a lock to make this roster. I think, if anyone is more on the bubble, it's Kemp. To me, it comes down to Kemp vs Powell and whether or not they feel comfortable letting Powell hit waivers. Ideal world is Kemp makes the roster for STs and Powell spends the year on the PS learning. I could see the Chiefs waiving Kemp though.

Alot of the online guys have the Chiefs choosing between Ward and Harris at DE and keeping Okafor. I don't know that I'd do that. I'd rather keep the upside of both and let Okafor walk, and honestly I think they've played that way in pre-season.

At LB I really think it comes down to O'Daniel vs Cobb vs Cole. We all know the only thing O'Daniel offers is STs value in all 4 phases. Cobb, to me, is the best choice though in terms of upside and physical ability. He can learn to be a better special teams player. Meanwhile, I think Cole is the guy to stash on the PS and see if he can learn and help supplant Niemann in 2022.

I have CB/S as being the positional area the Chiefs really have to play the numbers game. I feel best about 9 I have listed. I like Keyes and Lammons as guys that would be a #6. Bootle hasn't been terrible either. I don't think all of them will get claimed, if any, so you take your chances and should be able to stash at least a couple. Key showed some promise but he's not a roster-ready guy for anyone so I doubt he gets poached.

I don't think they will carry 4 RBs... they would probably keep Gore , over Thompson if they did. I also think they keep Blythe, he looked really good at Center/Guard and is cheap. I think they keep the Prince at tackle and trade or cut Wylie... I think they may trade at least one linemen, will be shocked if we don't. I could see them keeping Keys or one of the other safeties with Tyrann's contract coming due and carrying only 4 LB's.

Gore got carries against 3rd stringers. Thompson got more against 2nd string and he's been here. I don't think they keep Gore over Thompson on the 53 just looking at it more objectively. That's kind of painful to say, given I really don't like Thompson much, or at all for that matter. If they keep Gore instead, I'm totally good with that.

Blythe had that hernia surgery so who knows for sure when he'll be back and have the core strength. I think LDT is a bit more known with a broken hand and healing time. It's a tough call. LDT has been a solid starter here and has a guaranteed salary whereas Blythe doesn't.

Keeping 4 LBs is a dangerous proposition. I wouldn't worry much about if Tyrann isn't renewed. A guy like Key will see the field as much on the 53 as he would on the PS, which is zero. The decision on a 5th safety, 6th CB, or 5th LB in whatever combination likely comes down most to STs value which is why I could see O'Daniel making it again, even though I like Cobb more as a player. I think it's a reason BoPete could make it too. Tough choices on that front this year but I think it has nothing to do with Tyrann's future.

Gore got carries in the 2nd quarter Friday. I actually hope they don't keep either. A sports hernia is a quick heal, 3 weeks, I would be shocked if they don't keep Blythe, and not at LDT's expense, but probably Allegretti's, although the money difference with LDT is negligible as Blythe is cheap.

How many players can be added to the Practice Squad?

At some point they can be taken by another team, is that correct?

There probably is value for Alligretti, Blythe and LDT(if he would agree) to be traded, may even be value for Wylie. It would be nice to get a 5th Rd. pick for one of these.

All of them have to clear waivers. Basically we cut them and if nobody claims them we can put them on the PS (16 players). If somebody signs them afterward they HAVE to be on their 53 man squad, they can't add them to their PS. And once the PS is established we can protect 4 of them from being taken.

If a team tries to sign a player off the practice squad, can the Chiefs promote him to the 53 to avoid losing him (while cutting someone from the 53)?

you can protect 4, anymore than that isn't probably necessary.
