No. They have NATURAL athletic ability such as good balance and hand eye coordination. Being athletic is having NATURAL athletic ability. Being an athlete requires participating in athletics.

I went through entire basketball seasons leading up to baseball and I'll say that no matter how good of shape I thought I was in, getting ready for baseball kicked my ass more often than not. Just entirely different muscle groups and conditioning.

OK, I see what you're saying. You're applying a very nuanced definition to "athletic."

Golfers are athletic...just in a different, smaller way. They're certainly less athletic, though. Their athleticism is defined very narrowly.
