The final scene with Bond, Moneypenny and M was classic.

Bond films aren't meant to be hyper realism. They're just fun movies.

Agreed. I think the heavy politics of it made me drop out. I'm looking for agents kicking ass, not M going and bantering about why the world needs agents in the first place.

Flame away

That's what I've been told. It's possible I just don't get it, (I'm 22 and have never seen a Bond film outside of the Craig era) but I thought the film's gritty and realistic themes didn't mesh well with its frequent suspensions of disbelief. I also thought the arc of the film would have been stronger had they had the billards to off M halfway through the film (and had Bond chase down Silva in revenge).

To me the intensity of the film waned off after Silva failed to finish her in the courthouse.

That's all you needed to say. Geez Louise. Tell us how in your 2-3 years experience, KU Basketball should more properly be a community college program.

The cinematography was indeed stunning and a big part of why I liked it so much, but it was a magnificent buttercream icing on a well made cake.

I had a second viewing awhile back.

Rarely does a movie entertain me so much on a second viewing.

It's just...so perfect. To me it's like the ESB of Bond films.

Wow, really? I thought CR was so much better than Skyfall. I actually found Skyfall to be a little boring. Never really pulled me in as a bond flick.

CR lacked the moodiness that I loved in Skyfall.

Also it was mostly a film about dudes sitting around playing poker. It lacked a sense of the epic.

It suffered from a few serious problems, imo. One as has been said, is the massive suspension of disbelief required to accept the plot twists. It is a Bond movie, sure, but it was a pretty serious one for how silly some of the sequences were. Also, the main theme was James Bond being an outdated dinosaur and yet the movie pushed his world backwards to fit his outdated MO. Women were more disposable than they've been in years, the one female field agent was so incompetent, she almost killed Bond and became Moneypenny, M went back to being male (not that I have a problem with that, Ralph Fiennes is going to be ****ing perfect). It just seemed that the movie want sure what it was trying to do with the world or Bond.

That said, it was entertaining, which I know is the point. (I've seen every Bond film and am a huge fan) It was a solid Bold and fun to watch. It just seemed, with the talent assembled, it could have been more.

Every Bond film is filled with "massive suspension of disbelief", so I don't think that Skyfall was unique to this series.

As a matter of fact, the suspension of disbelief is what has fueled these movies since the 1960's. Without it, the series would have died in the 70's.

True, but they've been progressively pushing the franchise to grittier places that point up absurdity. If they do crazy, nonsensical things in Moonraker, I'm like "of course". Not a deal breaker, but they seem to want the series to be taken more seriously.

I'm not sure if the goal is to be taken "more seriously" as opposed to making it s bit more grounded in reality than in the past. For me, QoS was just such a Bourne rip off that I didn't find it the least bit enjoyable.

I'd actually rather see SPECTRE as a little more outlandish and supposedly, that's the goal. We'll see...

And while we're talking a bit about Casino Royale, as much as I enjoyed that film and thought Craig was awesome, it bummed me out for Pierce Brosnan because he never had a script even remotely as good as CR.

I think Brosnan would have killed in CR, but with that said, I greatly enjoyed Craig's performance.

Definitely agree. Dalton got even worse treatment. At least Brosnan had Goldeneye.
