Phrases that annoy you...

This will probably be a dud of a thread, but screw it.

What are some overused phrases that annoy you?

Here's a couple that irk me for no rational reason:

"Across the pond" - I hear a lot of Americans use this phrase when referring to people from England, or just England in general. "Yea, we're headed on a vacation across the pond." Everyone uses this phrase and I hate it. It may have been clever the first time someone said it....but not anymore.

"In the drink" - fisherman use this one. If they're on the boat, and they knock something over and it goes in the water, they'll say it went in the drink. "Damn, my phone fell out of my hand and went in the drink. I'll have to buy a new one."

"Wet our lines/kayaks" - I've heard people use "wet our lines" quite a bit and it never bothered me too much, until I worked on shift with a kayak enthusiast. Any time you asked him what he was doing next weekend, he always said "Oh, I'm gonna go get my kayak wet." Every freaking time. Just got tired of hearing the same phrase.

I work in public and this applies to most woman under 30 it seems. On War of the Roses on 96.5 it was a young lady and in her interview she said LIKE over 100 times to explain their relationship.

It was LIKE annoying.

This isn't a specific phrase, but I find it annoying when people call into sports talk radio shows and spend the first part of their phone call saying to the host "Thank you for taking my call", "I love your show", "Long time listener", blah blah blah…

Just get to the point already.

No, I won't promise you that I will not get mad because I am already mad that you said that stupid phrase and I am going to get even more mad after you tell me what ever it is that you are going to tell me.

Bah, it's a filler word. Some people talk like that.

Other common filler words are 'yanno' and 'uhhhhh'.

uhhhh isn't really a word. I think it sounds better when people say 'like' or 'yanno'.

Interestingly enough many of the things I'm reading that people here hate are things that people primarily say to folks who are bitching and they want them to shut the **** up.

I hear these two phrases from politicians as they attempt to avoid tough questions or talk genuinely about issues.

I can't stand it, and anyone who uses either of these INSTANTLY loses credibility and my interest.

I also hate it when people say they would win or do something 11 out of 10 times or 15 out of 10 times, etc. Whenever the numerator exceeds the denominator when a single individual states their confidence as to how many times they will/would accomplish something, it makes me want to eat my own face 1000 out of 100 times. I admire the confidence, but I think the emphasis can be expressed in a manner which makes sense...for example: "We would stick the AIDS tree up these shit-eating Denver Donkey-dick assholes, 10 out of 10 mother****ing times!!!" I would appreciate it being emphasized in that manner much, much more.
