I think it's part of the suffering, or something... like people who say they've watched every Chiefs game for the past 40 years, which will somehow make winning that much better. Except, of course, if you suck at playing basketball or football or whatever, you probably shouldn't select your school based on the team you like. Seems like pretty simple logic for anyone who went to Kansas or a smaller directional school...

Honestly, tell me how it isn't a logical argument. If I had gone to any other school, I'd root for those teams, and for the professional teams that represented my town (ie, Royals, Chiefs). I see college as a case completely separate from professional sports, where you actively root for the college team that represents the students who attend that college.

On the flip-side, of course, is the idea that those who have since graduated from that college should be somewhat removed from rooting for that team, but there's still a big argument to be made for alumni supporting their school.

I just don't get the "pick a team and root for them" philosophy, EVEN considering geographic considerations (eg, if you're close to that school, that's your team).

Trust me, why the **** else would I root for MU?
