Tiger Records was the place to buy albums for sure. I spent a major part of my salary from Worlds of Fun in that place. Now I look back I figure to be pretty lucky I didn't get bombed out during the mob wars era. Anthony J. Cardarella From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article includes a list of references, related reading or external links, but its sources remain unclear because it lacks inline citations. Please improve this article by introducing more precise citations. (October 2011) Anthony J. "Tiger" Cardarella (1926–1984) was a Kansas City, Missouri mob figure involved in large-scale fencing operations. Cardarella was the owner of Tiger's Records shop on Independence Avenue in Kansas City. He was also a suspect, along with Felix Ferina, in a gangland shooting for which he always insisted on his own innocence. Cardarella served five years in prison for receiving stolen property including firearms. He was noted for paying professional thieves and shoplifters to steal records from other record stores, such as Walmart. A life-long gambling addict, it is believed that that he was murdered over extensive gambling debts that he had accumulated. Physically small, "Tiger" got his ferocious nickname from other boys at Boy Scout camp as an ironic reference to his life-long fear of bees. It stuck when H. Roe Bartle, the future mayor of Kansas City, referred to him as "this little 'Tiger'" when he handed him a Life Scout award. Sadly, in later life it gave a small and gentle man an unwarranted reputation for a fierceness that he did not have. In February 1984, he disappeared after leaving a local restaurant. After a frantic search by his family, police found the body of Anthony Cardarella in the trunk of his car. He was identified by his eldest son. His body was intact, and the cause of death was suffocation. The abandoned car, located near a freight company, had been towed off the street to the city impound lot. The body had sat in the trunk for several days before being discovered. His murder remains unsolved. |

Sears, Dillard's most the department stores owned there buildings. They were erected separately with separate walls with doors opening into the Mall. Some of the Departments stores sold the building to the mall owners and pulled out. Sears hangs onto for some reason even though they are a ghost town.
Antioch Center has been torn down except for Sears and Burlington Coat. They have regraded the property and a new Walmart Market is nearing opening in fall. Several other building pads are for lease and supposedly housing for older folks are supposed to go in. |

I dont quite get it either, unless you live in LA where its always 70 degrees. Who wants to wander from store to store in 95 degree heat or in the winter. Not me. Enclosed malls make everything easier.

I think the indoor malls went in the tank because parents dumped off there kids for the mall to babysit them. Bad things started happening and pretty soon the adults who actually spent money abandoned them.

yes... it was insanely embarrassing working there, it was on the 2nd floor right on the corner by the coin fountain, we were facing the hot chicks in the Sunglass Hut kiosk and I had to wear that goofy outfit shown below...
