The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

Also, the odds that a new rookie LT and a new QB to the team fail are probably higher than if we re-sign albert and just roll the dice with Geno

I mean how much worse could it be than last season?

Reid. Today it was shown that Reid told Dorsey to get him a sandwich and Dorsey did. True.

Humor me, what evidence so boldly convinces you that Alex Smith isn't an ascending player?

Isn't this the same guy who thought there was a negligible difference in QB play from 1-15?

You never did respond to that, so perhaps you can now. If you truly think that Alex Smith is the answer, then you truly are an old man and a fool. I made that earlier post out of jest but if that is what you believe, you're beyond help.

It couldn't.

You could start EJ Manuel and have better production than last year.

ur missing the point. That might be true but all the gm's are saying that joeckel is a better player at his position and is worth the 1 pick but geno is not. PERIOD. He's a way better left tackle than geno is a qb.

When Dorsey said they was no clear cut qb he was talking about lets get a qb in free agency ala Alex Smith and yesterday it was reported by Tj Carpenter of 810 sports kc who was in Indy at the combine and reported that Reid was very impressed with Genos abilities and in his interviews.

What GMs have come out and said that Joeckel is a better player at his position and is worth the #1 pick?

We'll get Alex and we will still draft Geno. I'm good with that because it creates great competition to play well. Geno will expect to start and Alex will not want to get "Kaepernicked" again. May the best man win. At least we will have a capable back up at any time.

Why would reid like him so much if he so mediocre as you all say he is?
Because GMs and coaches that bring in a mediocre QB that can get a team to 8-8 and look like they might get a wildcard berth generally don't have to worry about getting fired? I don't think you have to go much further than that to look for the answer to your question. People get fired for bringing in terrible QBs, not mediocre ones.

You're in for a rude awakening.

facts: chiefs are highly interested in alex smith. Andy reid really likes alex smith. Niners would prefer to not trade to arizona. Chiefs can offer far more than any other suitors.

Fans like you gotta start trusting the professionals. When they say they think Alex smith is a great football player, they're most likely right.
