But if he doesn't - and it's possible he's fallen off the cliff... as sometimes happens in a hurry with guys whose game are based on speed, Byrd is a guy who can help. Wouldn't explain the complete loss of pop, though.

Byrd's age is a downside, but it's not a roster-destroying salary for 2015, and you can rest the guy at DH. And if he becomes a part-time player in 2015, he probably doesn't get enough ABs to vest his option.

It would probably spell the end for either Danny Valencia or Nori Aoki. I suspect it would be Valencia. It's also possible they could shorten the bullpen for a time.
