Yeah, I'm still puzzled as to how the hell Grichuk missed the first slider he saw and what he was doing staring at the 2nd. Or how Peralta swung through the pitch he swung through for strike 3.

The dirty little secret is that the offense hasn't been terribly good for most of the year; the pitching's just been otherwordly.

Streaky.

Of course having strikeout machines like grichuk and more so reynolds doesn't help, but it's just to ****ing streaky

And as I say that we give up an 02 base hit to the 8 hitter

Expecting Cooney to hold 'em to 1 run isn't exactly fair. It's definitely not fair when they all brought their skillets to the ballpark today.

Anybody else notice that Heyward took about 5 steps after he fielded that ball before he threw it? I don't care how hard you throw it if you give him 3 free steps, J-Hey...

Eh, Peralta's maintained the same loopy swing he's had since he got here - I don't get the impression he listens to Mabry at all. Grichuk's as 'see ball, hit ball' as he's ever been and you could put Carpenter's crazy ass in a padded room and he'd sit in there mimicking swings until his arms locked up.

I can't put any of them at Mabry's feet. Reynolds? Yeah, that's on Mabry a bit because they've sapped him of his power while still being a strikeout magnet. And maybe if Matheny would give Carpenter a break here and there he wouldn't look so gassed either.

And hey - Reynolds battles back from a 3-0 count for the strikeout. Nicely done, buddy.

It's just the approach that I don't really care for. What they've done to reynolds, he tries to seemingly do to everyone

Yup. But like I said, Peralta doesn't care and Carpenter's crazy. When Grichuk starts taking inside pitches to right center, I'll be concerned that Mabry's gotten his claws into Randal as well but thus far none of Mabry's idiocy seems to have clicked.

Hey, there's a solid 7 coming through the metal detector. That's been more enjoyable than most of what I've seen so far this game.

Nice change-up from Cooney for the K there. He's also getting inside on righties with the fastball and just touched 90.

If he had ANY control of his breaking ball instead of just spinning them into the left side batter's box, he'd actually look pretty decent tonight.

EDIT: And of course he gives up a homer to the !@#$ing pitcher. Man oh man oh man is that breaking ball bad tonight. They're just going to sit there and wait on that fastball if you can't get a breaker near the zone. It makes it impossible to tunnel that high fastball off the back of the breaking ball. If they see it come out from that angle, they'll give it a rip if they don't have to respect the breaker getting down under their hands.

Crap. Still got a bit to learn, Tim.
