Don't believe there's a dedicated thread, and since they're starting to release information now, I figure it's time for one.

The game's really designed for the casual, I think more adult, bioware RPG fan market, and I think that audience (which includes me) loves it. It's exactly what they've always said that it was going to be, which is a story-focused game, soloable from 0 to the cap, with lots of opportunity to group on the way up and at 50.

For me, it's the best MMO I've ever played (and I've played a number of them). It's by far the best storytelling I've ever seen in an MMO. I have, to this point, mostly played it as a single-player experience because my guild is made up of older players with families and responsibilities, I'm way ahead of them all (about to hit my second 50; nobody else is even 45 yet) and I will not PUG. But when I have grouped, I've enjoyed that quite a bit as well.

They're on a pretty serious content schedule, they regularly patch, and to date, speaking only for myself, I've experienced zero meaningful game-breaking issues, stretching back all the way to my first beta weekend in September. So while I do understand that some people have had issues, I have no qualms at all about paying for the game in the state that it is right now.

I think people looking for a revolutionary game may have been disappointed. I think people - specifically people who like RPGs - looking for storytelling in an MMO have found this to be a revolutionary game in that regard. But at its core it's very much a traditional RPG. So I think people who've been playing WoW for 6 years, and who don't really in the end care all that much about stories or how they're told - may not fall in love with it, because it may seem too familiar. It all basically goes back to turn-based RPGs.

That's my take. I purchased the CE and signed up for a 6-month sub and I have zero regrets so far for either.
Great, fair review and I appreciate it.

By the sounds of it I'll likely stick with WoW until at least TOR develops a great PvP system.

I played DAoC because of the PvP and I play WoW for the PvP.

I've never really been a console RPG guy and have played only a small handful of PC RPG's. So stories, while entertaining when questing, aren't the reason I play MMO's.

Yeah, at this point, if you're looking for PvP, I don't think TOR would be the direction I'd recommend. Not yet at least. I think they have some great ideas in theory, but the execution isn't quite there yet.

After watching several videos of TOR, WoW really needs to step up their game. Hopefully they do that with Pandaland.

I tried so hard to like WOW coming from Everquest and i couldnt. For some reason, something felt empty to me. I thought if i kept playing i would eventually enjoy it, but never happened.

DCU almost got it right, but not quite. lol Star Wars is ok so far.

Finally got all my friends together tonight (all 5 of us, we're a really big guild...) and we wandered around killing the low level world bosses and getting datacrons. And actually had a blast doing it. So easy to get locked into soloing in this game, felt good to hook up with friends.

Any tips for someone working on crafting?
Currently have two characters that I am playing (time is very limited right now).

Have an IA with Cybertech, level 22. Cybertech is right around 70ish.
Have a BH with Armortech, level 20. Armortech is 60ish.

Seem to be having a PITA on reverse engineering stuff.
Also, I seem to be that items I can currently craft are not as good as what I an get on drops. Almost like I am leveling to fast or not leveling my crafting fast enough.

Thx

I grouped up with some random dudes last night and did some PvP. Holy shit, we actually won like 5 out of the 8 matches we played (I had to go to bed afterwards). It's crazy how a little healing made me a ****ing wrecking ball in PvP, I was getting like 8 medals per match. I still get flustered too easily but at least I didn't feel like a complete tard running around mashing buttons. The only bad part is that I got a shit ton of experience so I'm really close to 48 and I just now landed on Belsavis.

I'm going to get my first champion bag tonight. There's gotta be a better way to get Mercenary commendations than just trade Warzone commendations in at a 3:1 ratio, right? Is it just world PvP?

Anyone seen KCXIV, he was in WC, but I havent seen him in almost a month now I think. And since the guild tools in this game are non-existant, I can't tell if he's logged in, left the guild or anything.

He's Fruit Ninja now and he last posted at 1:26am last night.

You guys all need to migrate to Republic!

P.S. You can see members who are offline by checking that little box in the guild window, that way you can at least see if he's still in the guild.

I don't even want to know how he became Fruit Ninja.

And as for migrating, I think it should be the reverse. We are trying to run 2 x 8 man raids, and could use a few extra toons to fill the spots. Need a few dps, 1 heal and 1 off tank.

On the raid note, we tried to do EV HM last night, and couldn't beat the first boss. DPS needs to gear up a bit more before we try it again. EV normal is complete and total farm status, and Karaga (sp?) we have the first few encounters down, but the Reformatter is another DPS race that we have to wait for some gear to get down.
