Which is going to happen when you loosen up PI rules. It doesn't change the fact that efficient offensive teams are enjoying just as much success as explosive offensive teams, yet somehow we keep talking as if 5,000 yard QBs are the way of the future.

The way the Ravens and Giants have played, Joe Montana could easily step in and win multiple Super Bowls. That tells you the game has not changed nearly as much as people want to pretend it has.

Total tangent. God. Can you imagine Aaron Rodgers behind center for this Chiefs team. Christ. We'd probably be averaging 35 ppg. Even with shitty line play. Because it's not like he hasn't carried GB in the past behind god awful lines.

I'm not asking for 5,000 yards.

Just the ability to consistently threaten a defense past 10 yards.

So far we don't have that with Alex.

Yes, that's true. Like I said, I haven't seen Alex Smith bring that and that's always been my concern. But I disagree that that's any different from previous eras. Joe Montana was an efficient QB for most of the game, but when you put the ball in his hands in the 4th quarter, he was going to score on you at every time.

Of course elite QB play isn't all you need, but it's pretty much a prereq if you want to play for a conference championship. The other parts then matter more deep into the playoffs, since everyone's QB is playing at an elite level at that point.

This. Bottom line, there are lots of ways to win games.

Wilson doesn't put up huge stats, but he's a top QB. Elite doesn't mean stats. Elite means you make plays at critical points in the game.

It is not a passing league but the rookies came in and threw the ball all over the field last year. Hell Luck passed for 4375 yds and 23 TD's.

Just because most of those QBs are putting up record-breaking yardage seasons, doesn't mean it's a formula for success. How many playoff wins do Romo and Stafford have? Apart from one Super Bowl run, the Saints have been horrible in the playoffs.

Yes, some QBs are putting up monster numbers. But last year, 7 of the 12 playoff teams were in the Top 11 in rushing. You don't think that means something?

Russel Wilson threw for 385 yards 2TDs/1INT and still lost a 30-28 game in the playoffs. You can win a lot of regular season games all sorts of ways, because the league is so mediocre... but, when you start playing the big boys, you need to put up points.
