Late night bullshit: breaking down random plays from the Browns game.

There were a lot of plays from the Browns game on both offense and defense that I found pretty fascinating for their own reasons, positive and negative.

I figured I'd take a thread for the next hour or two of late night bullshitting to individually break down a handful of them to my liking.

You are welcome to weigh in on these particular plays, or offer your own for either a breaking-down by yours truly or not.

I always think it's interesting to take in an entire play, all 11 pieces moving to see how the sausage gets made.

Might just be me.

13:34 1st Q, score 0-0
3rd & 9, KC ball on KC's 44

Smith in the shotgun. Jamaal Charles set left. Fasano in motion towards LT. Avery wide left on an island, Bowe and McCluster packaged together just off RT.

Off the snap, Avery jukes and goes deep left, Bowe runs a crossing route to the left side of the field. McCluster runs a route off screen, looks like he's darting down the right sideline.

Smith takes the snap and drops back a couple steps. Charles slithers across the pocket and opens up a yard or two shy of the LOS with nobody on him. Fasano runs a strong slant across the middle of the field with a LB draped on him.

The Browns run a heavy blitz on the left side. First a blitzer comes through at a snap on the left side, then an additional delayed blitzer comes through shortly after. Neither blitzer is picked up at all.

Albert mans a down lineman on the left edge and shields him off harmlessly from the play. Allen collides with Kruger, who's standing above him at the snap, and promptly gets put on his ass as he looks over at the blitzers running free past him. Hudson and Asamoah put their hands on tackles but quickly disengage to rush downfield. Fisher receivers the OLB and stalls his progress as Charles slips in front of him.

It's the perfect playcall for a heavy left blitz: Smith flicks the ball to Charles just as the first blitzer reaches him, with the screen takes shape on the right side. Charles gets the ball a couple yards shy of the LOS, with Asamoah and Hudson directly in front of him (Hudston's actually a good five yards in front), with McCluster and Fasano blocking downfield. The Browns are caught with their pants down.

It's fifteen yards before Charles even has to juke. Asamoah seals off a DL from chasing him, and Hudson is out front, looking for a DB twenty yards down from the LOS. Fasano stalls a LB off the play for about fifteen yards before the LB frees up to make Charles work back in field, where enough Browns DBs converge on him. McCluster, for his diminutive size, manages to effectively drive Haden away from the play at the snap with his route, then effectively block Haden away from Charles until the last moments of the play.

Charles gets hit from behind, and uses that hit for positive momentum, gaining another 6 yards on the play as he goes down.

Gain of 24. First down on the Cleveland 32.

11:17 1st Q, score 0-0
1st & 10, CLE ball on CLE 19

Jason Campbell is under center with a lone RB, two wide WRs, a slot WR on the right side, and a TE off the RT. The TE (Jordan Cameron) is in motion and lines up behind the LG. Campbell hands the ball off to McGahee for a run off tackle behind LT Joe Thomas.

Chiefs open up in the dime. Demps, Lewis play deep, with Flowers giving an 8 yard cushion to the slot. Cooper and Smith are out wide on their respective islands. Berry and DJ man the LB spots, with Hali and Houston out wide standing off the tackles, Poe and DeVito have their hand in the dirt.

The RT and RG receive Houston and DeVito, respectively, who are both holding contain on their side. Both the C and LG converge on Poe to largely shield him off from the play.

But that's not where the play is going, anyway. Joe Thomas darts for Hali, engaging him and shutting him down for the play, with Jordan Cameron intending to plow a path for McGahee. Jordan runs about five yards downfield and engages Quentin Demps, who's rallied up from deep downfield. The corner on that side of the field, Sean Smith, takes a bit too long to react to the play to make any impact.

Fortunately, Poe attracting Alex Mack and the RG has opened up a gigantic hole in the middle of the DL, which DJ gets to first with Berry in hot pursuit.

DJ is untouched, and gets to McGahee before he can even get back up to the LOS. Berry is received by Alex Mack, who expertly shifts off Poe to receive him, even though he seemingly never saw DJ blast through.

Loss of two. Second and 12 at Cleveland's 16.

Football and politics seem to be two major things.
