Iowa City CP'ers

Tell me of your city. I'm going to be working up here for the foreseeable future and I'd appreciate any of the usual info. Restaurants, things to do, mechanics, doctors, so on and so forth you'd recommend. I'm 26 and have a fiancee if that gives you any cues on stuff to do.

I know U of Iowa is here and the city isn't that big. I'm guessing most everything centers around the University. I know the weather sucked here today so that's no different than KC. Are the winters even more awful? I'm presuming they are. That's about all I got right now.

Just help a guy out.

I guess it's hard to understand if you're not from the area. Maybe it's similar to what Kansas City feels about St. Louis?

It's probably that way since Iowa City IS Chicago. Half the students are from the Chicago suburbs, and just end up staying in IC when they realize their art or sociology degree isn't going to get them anywhere.

Ranked as a top ten party school in the nation every. Have fun. Crash some house parties with your old lady. Don't **** with the cops around Kinnick stadium. They are their own area separate from the campus, and make their living off of sports and drunk drivers.

Most of them are from Chicago suburbs. I would guess that 35% of all students are Chicago shitbags

Property values are kind of ridiculous compared to KC. A shit box ranch on a city lot that I'd give 100k for is an easy 140-150k. Blows my mind.

Pretentious- attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed. Claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified

Prick (in the context used in this thread)- insulting terms of address for people who are stupid or irritating or ridiculous

I think "condescending pricks" are a more accurate way of describing some of them.
The hipster crowd that was mentioned is just what you get. Go to any college town. Iowa City. Madison. Urbana/Champaign. Lawrence. That's the kind of vibe you'll get from all of them.

That's what happens when a small(ish) city supports a huge ass university.

Eh, I know they're a lot smaller universities, but you don't get that vibe at all from Ames or Cedar Falls.

True. And I'm probably more inclined to feel the way I do about hipsters due to living in a town that is microscopic compared to that small(ish) city. 1200 people in my town.

My biggest beef with hipsters (in addition to their inclination to forcing irony, conforming to non-conformity, condescending nature, impact on the increased price of PBR, etc.) is the fact that my beloved freaking brother became one and he is like a totally different person now, which isn't a good thing. And he turned into one of these hipster prags after moving to Iowa City of all places.
