Can Herm pull a Jimmy Johnson on draft day?

Trade down, trade down, trade down, trade down.

Just keep moving down in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd... and pick up 20 4th and 5th round picks.

Then plan to use all of the excess cap space to trade LJ.

If we are going to blow it up and start over, let's do it right.

Aside from the LJ thing, and the 20 picks exaggeration... do you think we can stockpile a bunch of high 2nd day picks ala the Cowboys?

At most, we're gonna be alloted around $6-7M(*) in the rookie cap, so it's not gonna do us a ton of good to accumulate 12 or more picks. We likely wouldn't be able to sign them all.

*estimation based on last years numbers.

Its not like the 90's Cowboys didnt have any #1 picks to build around.

Irvin
Aikman
Emmit

Were all high 1st rounders...

I didn't know we had Herschel Walker on our team.

thus chiefs should have space for all their picks, since the rookie salary cap for each team fluctuates by # of picks and estimated salary at each pick.
My point was that I don't think they'll give us $10M if we accumulate say, 14 picks. I would think there is a limit. Maybe not.

Sure we'll have enough as things stand now.

Some of you need to realize we need superstar players somewhere. Trading down to get depth is good, but this team needs playmakers first and foremost.

We have our young QB, our star RB (and an intriguing backup) and a star WR, and a star TE.

We need the ugly players who seem to be available in the 4th round every year. Herm seems to be able to find the DB's we need, so I don't think we *have* to take a player with the #4/5 pick.

If we could do the following (or something vaguely like), I'd be exstatic.

Trade 5th for 15th and a 2nd.

Trade 15th for 20th and a 3rd _ 4th.

Trade 20th for a 28th and a 3rd.

Trade 28th for top of 2nd + 3rd

At that point, we'd have have gotten a high 2nd, 3 3rds and a 4th for our #5 pick.

Do the same with each of those (to move down into the 2nd day) and we could end up with 10 picks out of that #5 pick.

I don't know if this is a year to do something like that (if the talent is there in bulk in the high 2nd day). But if it is and we really are trying build with youth... why not?

With 20 picks we could literally take 6 OL, 5 DT, 4 CB and 3 QBs and almost certainly end up with several franchise players out of that mix.

Wow. Jaz might be the only person LESS qualified than Carl to run a draft.

Jake Long and Sedrick Ellis sure are "ugly" players. We can get their equivalent in the 4th round!!!

We have our young QB.

I think that's a bit of a reach.

I think we need to keep our first rounder. Trading down in the 2nd and 3rd would be an option I wouldn't mind, though.

I'd have a hard time trading down in any round.

We're picking so early in each round it's like having 2 R1 and a R2.

Think of the players we could have had last year with this early of a pick.

Choose one from each group:

Levi Brown
Adrian Peterson
Patrick Willis

Justin Blalock
Tony Ugoh
Lamar Woodley

Ryan Harris
Marcus McCauley
Jacoby Jones
Yamon Figurs

All of the following 2008 Pro Bowlers (OL/DT) were drafted after the 1st round.

Flozell Adams, Dallas, 2nd Round
Andre Gurode, Dallas, 2nd Round
Matt Birk, Minnesota, 6th Round
Pat Williams, Minnesota (Highlights), Undrafted
Matt Light, New England, 2nd Round
Jason Peters, Buffalo, Undrafted
Kris Dielman, San Diego, Undrafted
Jeff Saturday, Indianapols, Undrafted
Dan Koppen, New England, Round 5
Jamal Williams, San Diego, 2nd Round

Point is that there is a lot of OL/DT talent available to us even if we trade down.
