Chad Johnson gets 30 days in jail for probation violation

Posted by Mike Florio on June 10, 2013, 11:36 AM EDT

Not since Vincent LaGuardia Gambini found himself repeatedly in contempt has the lack of courtroom decorum had such dire consequences.

According to Local10.com, former NFL receiver Chad Johnson appeared in court today in connection with allegations that he violated probation by failing to keep in touch with his probation officer. Though prosecutors initially wanted Johnson to be jailed for the infraction, a plea deal was reached.

Under the terms of the agreement, Johnson’s probation would have been extended to December 21, and he would have performed 25 hours of community service.

“You better thank your lawyer. He did a great job for you,” Broward Circuit Court Judge Kathleen McHugh told Johnson after accepting the agreement.

Johnson responded by slapping attorney Adam Swickle on the butt. Which prompted the judge to call the whole thing off.

She believed Johnson wasn’t taking the situation seriously, so she rejected the plea deal and sentenced him to 30 days in jail.

Johnson pleaded no contest last year to battery of his wife, who has since divorced him. He was cut by the Dolphins in the aftermath of the arrest.

The good news is that he’ll be free in time for training camp. The bad news is that there isn’t, and won’t be, a training camp to attend.

This is about a judge who is so immature that they changed a court ruling because they thought people were laughing at them.

I've been in court a few times for traffic violations and possession of weed. This over 20 yrs ago. Even THEN I knew to be on my best behavior. Should be common knowledge.

Exactly. She didnt have to approve it. That means she was cutting him a break by accepting this plea deal (less time for the crime).

When he acted stupid, she decided not to sign the plea deal, and in turn, not cutting him a break.

She was doing him a favor by signing the plea deal, which is entirely within her power to do, or in this case, not do.

Dude was there for probation violation.

If he wasn't a celebrity and had money for a good lawyer he would be in an orange jumpsuit pleading his case.

He's pushing his luck to the max.

Didn't see his probation officer for 3 months?

Dumbass.

Most people would already be in jail because of that.

When he showed up for court he wasn't dressed right either.

Have you ever been in court or on probation?

Your freedom is riding on the whims of the judge / prosecutor you don't do anything that could jeopardize that.

He did.
this isn't true. I know many people that violate and walk. Second third fifty chances.
