Hyundai expert mechanic question
I would GREATLY appreciate true and knowledgeable advice, not any random guesses or maybe's.
I blew up my air conditioner compressor and my car was towed this morning. It's a 2002 Hyundai XG350L with 123,966 miles. They are giving me two estimates of $1,250 to get back on the road with no warranty and $1,700 to "do it right" and clean out all the metal shavings and do it the right way. I had someone tell me to inform them to just disconnect the compressor and put a new belt on knowing I would have no A/C but the car would run. The auto shop told me it's not possible with my car's setup. Am I being F**ked up the arse or is that true and they can only complete something more major? The thought of spending $1250-1700 on a 11 yr old car makes me sick. Any actually advice other than "You are being raped", "Burn your car in an AIDS tree fire", or "You need to shove antifreeze down the throat of the mechanic" is greatly appreciated! |

I'm curious how you know you "blew up your a/c compressor"? Did it lock up and break the belt?
My son's Impreza runs fine with a dead a/c compressor but I don't know if the Hyundai would too. |

With that said, those prices seem inflated, especially an additional $450 to flush the system. The shop he had it towed to is probably banking on him not wanting to hassle with towing it somewhere else. |

Jump stated this morning but when driving the fuel injection would work and the car died after stopping at a light. Also, the A/C was acting funny in the last few weeks
