The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

???- I personally would take Kaepernick but that is my personal opinion, I would understand maybe even top 7 so maybe 90% was a stretch. But again in my own opinion Kaep has the upside many QB's don't have. Such as arm strength and the ability to escape pressure and turn it up field with his 4.3/4 speed.

I think Kaepernick is the complete package, but at the same time he still has much room for improvement. His future looks brighter than any other QB out there I think. 10 games and he was 1 play away from being a SB champ. Again he just has to work more on his short passes and he is currently doing that in Atlanta with a lot of other NFL players.

That's just off the top of my head.

Hindsight is 20/20. He was an intriguing prospect with alot of question marks...second round is a greart spot for him...and so far he's been fantastic.

It's like a damn conspiracy that the Chiefs will continue to suck forever.

If they trade for that POS I'm done forever.

Colin Kaerpernick ran a 4.53 at the combine last year...

My point was to him...he was making a comment about how the Pistol Offense should have been a concern..it was...thats why he was taken in second round.

Its was actually 4.5 speed at the combine but we found out later he was running hurt. He had surgery after the draft tho the 49ers never let on what was wrong with him.

I doubt that would mean he actually has 4.3 speed...but he seems faster than 4.5.

Bring in a guy like Alex Smith who has played extremely well the past two seasons, and even if he doesn't work out you still have at least a guy that brings leadership, doesn't make mistakes, 18-5(19-6 w/ playoffs), and 2 of his last 4 games were about as perfect as you can have. 18/19 for 233 and 3 tds, 8/9 1 td his game he was hurt and his 300 yard 3td game against the Bills in which he was nearly perfect as well. Not to mention leading the league in completion percentage, QBR, td/int ratio (remember 3 of his 5 were in one game in which he had a broken finger).

This idea that the media has portrayed on Alex has obviously gotten to fans here. Alex may not be an explosive QB that everyone wants but he is no Matt Cassel. With him being coached by Reid running a WCO in which he has plenty of experience, with him having Charles as a RB with a decent line, I think Alex could win your division for you.

If not at the very least you have a stop gap that is better than any of these other guys I've seen mentioned. Alex has 2 years in a row of playing well, Matt Flynn has 2 games. Matt Cassell? Go ahead and stay with him and see how far you go.
A lot of people here would rather drive a red hot nail into their eyes than to agree with this. But this is a cerebral post. I myself trust this scenario more than I trust taking Geno at the top and betting everything on him.
