Five solo homers in three innings. That's some PED-era shit.

Went to the Saturday game, I had fun despite Leake stinking up the joint. A ton of Cardinal fans in Seattle this weekend.

If Matheny had sent you out there to protect the lead, I'd have a hard time blaming you for giving up runs.

There's no reason at all to expect you'd get the job done.

Rosenthal was only a few ticks more likely to get through that inning clean than you are.

Rosenthal is terrible right now, yes. But it's Matheny that gave him the damn ball when everyone knew it would be a disaster.

That's on Matheny.

You're rolling the dice with a trade like that. It depends entirely upon your internal scouting of Reyes and Weaver.

The Angels still have Trout through 2020. He's a 10 WAR player, which has pretty much never happened before. While Carpenter, Reyes, and Weaver likely get you 9-12 WAR by themselves, if you fill two roster spots with league-average starters then you're around 14.

From that perspective, you would make the trade.

However, Trout effectively costs 24 million a year, whereas the combination of the above three would net you about $11 million/year.

So, for Trout, you pay about 2.4 million/win, which is a significant bargain, but Carpenter, Reyes, and Weaver could *potentially* give you 1.1 million/win, but cost three roster spots instead of one.

I don't believe the Angels would ever make that trade, because they aren't great with Trout, and by the time Reyes and Weaver are ready Carpenter will be declining.

You would probably have to add Flaherty and Bader, and the Cardinals would likely ask for a few lottery tickets in return.

If that happens, you would stick Trout in center and live with his CF defense, and flank him with Holliday and Piscotty, while Garcia and Gyorko platoon second, Peralta takes third, Diaz short, and the Moss/Adams duo takes first.

But this would never, ever happen, and once he left St. Louis after 2020, the Cardinals would be one of the worst teams in baseball.

I would not be upset if they make that trade because he is signed through 2020. Like you said, WAR wise it seems like it would work out for us or at least potentially as long as Trout doesn't get injured. The Angels need good quality young pitching. Weaver and Reyes are the real deal. The Angels are not getting that without giving up something.

In 2017 we start the new cable contract so we can take on Trouts money and still being in others.

I still dont think Carp/Reyes/Weaver would be enough.
