I'm objective, man. I don't know why we're failing with recruits. I also realize that Bill Self has won the most games of any coach in the last 5 years by a pretty wide margin.

Landen Lucas, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound senior center from Westview High School in Portland, Ore., on Sunday night announced plans to play basketball at Kansas University.

Lucas, who attended Friday’s season-opener against Towson as part of an official recruiting visit, chose KU over Washington, Cal, Tennessee and Stanford.

“It was everything about Kansas,” Lucas told the Journal-World in a phone interview. “Everything about them ... the opportunity to develop there under coach Manning (Danny, big man coach) and coach (Bill) Self in that system was really appealing to me.”

Lucas had KU on his original list of schools. KU stopped recruiting him for a time, then the recruiting picked up recently when big man Kaleb Tarczewski committed to Arizona.

“That was hard, but it was the only school I would have picked that late,” Lucas said. “They jumped in. They jumped in strong. I really feel that even though they came in late for some weird reason I feel I’ve known them for a long time.”

I think Lucas is a solid player but he is definitely a "Plan C" after missing out on Tarczewski and all the other top big men in the 2012 class.
