Somebody's gotta have the inside scoop on Google Fiber launching tomorrow..??

https://fiber.google.com/savethedate/

Live broadcast over YouTube tomorrow. Anybody have any early news on this? Will it be available all over the Metro? How long will the waiting list be?

Anybody know anything? I'm impatient.

Sorry if Q...

OK, with both AT&T GigaPower AND Google Fiber about to become a reality in my neighborhood (which I find ****ing stunning if that's right!!!) can anybody with Google Fiber tell me what stations I'm not going to have that will piss me off and how you've dealt with it?

And one has to wonder if Time Warner is going to try to fight back at all? I'm not sure what they can do to fight either of the other's "download" speeds, but they can compete with GigaPower's upload speeds, and they do/can offer unlimited "real" phone service (which seems to be Google's vulnerability [at least IMO]), so I'm wondering if they plan to take this sitting down...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

I'd hate to have a Gig up/down, but have my built-in wireless NIC limit me to 54Mbps. But hey, if I could get 54Mbps, I'd only shed a small tear about the BW I'm leaving unused.

The laptop I'm n now has a Centrino Advanced-N 6200 wireless adapter, but I've never seen 300Mbps moving things around the house (when all devices are N-connected to the same router), and that sucks. So I think potential doesn't always mean it's going to happen. But with 20Mbps down and 1.5 up, I hardly cared...
Netgear 3400 as main
Encore as daisy/wifi

both are dual/N and have wireless speed up to 300Mbps

Well if this Google Fiber deal works and each TV box is a WiFi hotspot, AND in all that "connecting back to the base" (over the house COAX or even wireless - if they do that - whatever they choose/do), I hope I don't waste 70% of the potential Internet BW.

Having looked at how they set things up in the house there will be main Dmarc point (prolly something you shove in the basement) and in the "main" house location looks like it'll have three boxes/functions; a network box, a TV box (because I'm sure it'll be co-located with the main TV), and a storage box. But I think I saw that they have a TV/Storage combo box, so I could be wrong about that and those two functions are now combined. Oh, and I guess in a perfect world there should be no need to even co-locate the network box and TV box. LOL, so many options..

It's just really hard to determine what I'm going get, where it's gotta go vs. can go, and what limitations I'm going to be faced with. So I guess they're right, just make sure the guys can get to what they need in order to install it. They say they'll install wiring, use your COAX, and all about the Wireless-N that everything uses, so WTF!!!

All I know is my one 12" portable FUNAI TV is ****ed, it's old and only has a COAX input, so it's headed for the trash I'm sure! But it seems terrible that they don't offer a COAX output on the TV box..

But hey, from where I am with my "broadband" today, again, I'm not going to bitch.

Time Warner and other providers don't really 'need' to fight back. That 1Gb data rate is guaranteed across Google's network, not the internet. Your at the mercy of the rest of the web or whatever VOD server you are downloading the movie from. If its on-net for Google, then it should be pretty damn fast (provided the server isn't congested).

Indeed.. Lord knows Sysco's ****-ups over the past 10 years have really hurt them with their loyal customers, and the 50'ish% vs 25'ish% advantage they enjoy in the market share (over Jewnypr) is getting dug into each day.

And some of us who are new to this whole Nyetwerqing game might see a very different Eye-Tee world by the time we turn 27 years old.

27? How old are you? I always assumed you were close to my age.

Oh, I'm old, I'm just playing with him. he sounds like the typical young kid who has to prove that the Devry taught him the difference between Mb and MB. And Not to mention how to scream that anything is better than Cisco.

Yeah, I've been doing this whole networking thing since we ran ribbon cables in AGS+s, had IOS manuals in print, we had to erase Kalpana off the switch, and folks new what "router on a stick" meant.

JC, I actually am older than that! Thick wire, thin wire, Token Ring and DECnet was on my resume when I was asked to apply for my first teaching position in networking. From Token Ring to arguing the fail that is LANE to people who were sucked-in by Fore and were being told the Forerunner was the answer to all backbones. Hey man, 53 byte (or is it bite) cells baby!!

One of the first thing my engineers learn from me is that I am one too. After that I'll tell them why the guy or gal who works for me, who has a guy who works for him/her, hired the guy or gal who just hired him - because he has potential if he doesn't get too caught-up in the hype of the desperate sales guys feeding them drinks because their widget (perhaps their only widget!!) does one thing better than something in Cisco's lineup. But hey, they bought them shit off the top shelf and brought along a leggy lady too...

But I won't argue against Juniper, they make some pretty-OK stuff and are making Cisco's life hard for good reason.

So I'm not partial to Cisco, I just don't hate them because they're big.

No AMC. So no:
That's about the only station I'm missing. These are easy to get, if you need to see them next day or even hours later.
