On the other side using that argument or one similar to it all the defense had to do was stop 1 of Mannings 3rd down conversions to stop their drive..All the punt returner had to do was catch the ball

So either way you cut it if you hate Smith or like him all you have to do is to turn it around one way or the other..at the end of the day it's a team game and both the offense and defense have to hold up their end

That is why I said earlier that Smith contributed to the loss.

I am not blaming Smith solely, but the blame should not fall completely to Williams.

Every aspect of that team let down the others.

FTR, Brady's weapons were:

Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Wes Welker, Deion Branch, and Chad Ochocinco.

Even Brady's #5 target was a better player than Smith's #2 WR. Brady, a HOF QB playing in perfect conditions, couldn't do enough against that Giants defense to win the game despite the fact that he was playing with 3 of the most dominant skills players at their positions in the league.

Once again, there is no excuse for going 0fer.

Oh ok no that is a misunderstanding. I was referring to FA not the draft.
IMO the only FA QBs that are or usually that will be available are going to be Alex Smith at BEST but more likely significantly worse.
If we draft a QB in the first it is a win win to me in todays NFL.
You either get a good one or you don't. If you do then things are looking up. If not, we will have been drafting in the top half of the draft for a couple of years and should be loaded with talent to have around for the next QB that you draft in the first that might help that QB be more successful that can carry a player through their career.

I believe that some qbs are effected by the weather more than others. Usually the ones with the lesser arms.

Does a wet and sloppy field affect all players similarly?

Comparing them? Just using their struggles against the same defense to illustrate the fact that, maybe, just maybe, the Giants were actually a dominant defense in the second half of that year.

A defense that was so dominant that:

Aaron Rodgers with his full compliment of Wrs in Jennings, Driver, Nelson, Cobb, Finley, and James couldn't score more than 20 points on while playing at home.

Tom Brady with the league's most dominant TE duo in Rob Gonkowski and Aaron Hernandez, along with the most prolific slot WR in the league in Wes Welker, playing in perfect conditions couldn't score more than 21 points.

You really expected Alex Smith to light up that defense with the cast of Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, Kyle Williams, Brett Swain, and Chad Hall while playing in poor conditions (high whipping winds with rain)?

The funny thing is, Alex Smith actually had his team in a better position to win against the Giants in the playoffs that year than either the vaunted Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers did. And he did it with far less around him and in far worse football conditions.

But yes, carry on with the blind criticism, lol.

The Chiefs not being able to draft/develop their own franchise QB is the same as the Royals not being able to draft/develop their own franchise slugger.

WTF is wrong w/ these teams? We're talking damn near 30 years that neither franchise in the same city, is able to produce a badass cleanup slugger and can't produce a franchise QB.

It's disgusting.

I'm not saying Alex Smith doesn't deserve a big contract. I think with another good year (this season) he'll earn himself one. But it won't be with KC. That's what happens when a franchise continues to gamble on 30+yr old veteran QB's that have had stints w/ other teams, and now they want that last big payday before they hit the twilight of their NFL (Not For Long) career.

We can't give Alex Smith a $120M contract. I don't think we should pay him Cassel money either. Alex Smith disagrees though and the Chiefs are in a tough spot and I just hope Murray or Bray can shine enough to warrant a starting job. I think personally Murray has the ability to start in this league, but we'll see. If neither of them can't produce on the field when it counts, then the Chiefs will once again look for another 30yr old vet QB as a stopgap and theyll be back to square 1.
