I'll bet they thought getting last years team to .500 would be a good first year.

The only thing that looks rebuildy about this offseason is that they weren't active in FA, but when Dorsey said before the season last year, that his philosophy was to build from within, and that the activity and turnover was an aberration and not the norm moving forward, this offseason seems to be in keeping with the plan.

I buy that more than last season being a big plan to cover a rebuild.
Last season the plan was to get the fans back & fill the stadium.

When you trade away 2 picks to get a QB then sign several FAs the way we did it is saying that we are in a win now mode or to stop the bleeding. If you are going to build through the draft you don't trade away picks.
This off season we have done nothing in FA really. In the draft we didn't even draft players at positions of need. Lets not forget that Reid was texting Johnny Football all first round that we were going to take him at 23. You don't take a QB there and then extended Alex Smith. You can't expect a 2cd year QB to take this team anywhere. The players we did draft are all going to probably pay more dividends down the road than this season.
If we are not rebuilding why are we making moves for the future instead of for today?

Pure bullshit.

Why can't you expect a 2nd year QB to do anything? It's that line of thinking that has us sitting where we are.

I don't buy that Reid was texting JM at all.

Who was gonna play QB last year? It's clear Reid didn't like any QB in the draft, even to develop. Reid likes Smith, he said he'd thought about trading for him when he was in Philly. Reid wanted Smith and did what it took to get him. You need a QB. It might say win now, but it also is just a necessity. Dorsey drafted for the future last year, for Albert moving on, for Charles backup/replacement, and signed a ton of projects.

The only win now move was trading for Smith, but that was a coach who knew who he wanted and getting him. I still bet they didn't see the success they had coming.

It's astonishing that people don't understand that Dorsey has no choice but to do some reloading in certain positions.

It doesn't matter who the GM is. Tamba is near the end, Berry and Houston need contracts and Pioli made ludicrous backloaded contracts. Where do you think that money is coming from?

The Chiefs have no choice but to prepare for the future. Doesn't mean we are going full rebuild though.

That's all fine and dandy however iff they really feel that way about Smith, I doubt they have any hesitation to give him a big contract.

Agree. He's getting a new contract. Just hope it's not breaking the bank.
