Help building my first gaming rig

The PC vs Console thread really got me going (although, I've been wanting to do this for some time) I want to build a nice gaming rig that I can use to play some PC exclusives on as well as not having to worry about it being slow as hell compared to my POS laptop.

What I want -

1. Must be able to run graphics at med/high settings. (770 card?)
2. I'd like to have good storage for movies/music (I don't know the advantages/differences of an SSD/HDD.
3. I'd like to have an HDMI port so I can move it into my living room on the big screen.
4. I do need a monitor. Undecided whether or not I want to run a dual/tri monitor setup yet.
5. I still burn CD's and Dvds. Will need a drive that supports both.
6. 8 GB of Ram at least with options to upgrade to 16gb in the future.

To sum It up I want a Rig that can do it all with little to no issues speed wise. I have a budget of around $1000, which is pretty flexible.

I also like pretty things. So I'm not afraid to spend a little more on a nicer case. Am a big fan of the Cooler Master Stryker case, I love the cases with the windows in the side with LEDS.

If anybody would like to help me I would greatly appreciate it. I just want to be apart of the PC master race.

EDIT:

This is build I am going with, unless I find good deals on better components.

God damn deals lately. Picked up a money maker at Tiger Direct for a case. Then it all started.

Frys had an i7 3770k for $222
WD Mainstream 2TB $69
Tigerdirect has a Seasonic 660xp2 for $80
pny gtx 770 2gb for $280 after rebates

Just need a motherboard and memory and make a go of it. I am leaning towards Asrock because they have the remote turn on from a completely off state. I was thinking ASRock Z77M. Memory.... i have no idea. some 8gb stick.

I have an SSD sitting aronud that will handle Win 7 and XBMC.

Just throwing this out there, love my Asrock Extreme 6/gb . If you dont need tri-sli, Extreme 4 has all the same features with just 2 pci-e slots~

Mine is ATX, but I would still recommend asrock to anyone. I have had 2 separate mobos, both very good overclockers and high quality, and the reviews speak for themselves.

New or used? If its new, deal is ok. If its used? meh, you could likely build it new for that much or less.

That pricing is slightly better than Newegg. With a little bit of looking you can do much better.

With the monitor its a better deal. I bet if you looked hard you could find an even better one though. Depends on how hot you are on it.

Got my rig finally going last night. Seriously ground shipping from tigerdirect takes forever. Couple of issues:
--The (Free) Raygo case I got has a rolled metal bar right next to PCIE 3.0 socket. It blocked my HDMI cable from going in all the way... ugh. Had to take pliers to bend it out of the way.
--XBMC does not play nice with my GTX 770 when setting to "Match refresh rate to match video" is enabled. IE Watching 24fps video causes stuttering on video when XBMC changes the refresh rate. Yet if I manually change the refresh rate myself in the Geforce Control Panel it plays just fine. A minor annoyance. Playing all content at 24 or 60 plays fine. It is only when the video player tries to change it will it stutter.
--Went to register my GPU online at PNY (lifetime warranty), the serial number is only on the video card itself rather than on the box or anything. That is crazy and now I have to take apart my rig tonight to get to it.
--I heard a minor coil whine after a while. It was sporadic and not too annoying.

A few bumps in the road. Ran the Bio Shock Infinite Benchmark and the slowest segment was 55 fps. Avg was 120 fps. I am happy.
