Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Meh, I just can't get too upset about this. Albert is an above average LT who wants to be paid like a top notch NFL left tackle. I like him and he's good, but he's not great. Using the same argument about him we used for Alex Smith and Geno, we know what Albert is. We don't know what Joeckel or Fisher are at this point. They could be worse, they could be better.

We know they will be cheaper and younger.

If the money we save on this allows us to get Richard Seymour etc, i'm fine iwth it.

Like in the playoffs against NO? Oh wait now you are going to say its because NO defense sucked. You can explain away every positive, I get it.

Here is the beauty of it all, we will get to see right? There is always a reason.

You guys all know exactly what is going to happen so don't bother watching the games.

I am going to watch and see what plays out.

Can we stop using that single game. FFS, Tim Tebow threw the ball well against the Steelers once. It's a single game.

There is alot to actually like about Alex Smith in an Andy Reid offense. But enough with the " Like against NO"?

Yea that was his only good game. Thanks for enlightening me. Smith has never won a game in his life. I get it.

Did I ever say any of that?

Jeez, defensive much?

People are splattering off like Alex Smith is this playoff juggernaut. He had a great 4th quarter against the Saints. There is no question he was a "game manager" in SF. They had a great defense and a maul your ass of OL with good RB's. They played to their strengths.

Now, I think he has some really good tools to excel in Andy Reids offense and I'm actually excited about getting him in here. I don't think he's going to be Brady, but he can be successful here.

But FFS, you don't have to jump on everyone in every thread who says a negative thing about a Chief.

At best we can hope he cuts down on the picks and can stretch the field more than Matty.

The thing is, you haven't seen jack shit from either Joeckel or Fisher. Neither of those guys have played a down in the NFL and Joeckel is coming from a pure spread system and Fisher is from a FBS school. That's going to equate to a shit ton of required learning. Hell, it's taken an elite prospect like Okung three years to "get it" at the NFL level and neither of these guys have that level of upside. Not even close.

You better hope to hell that Stephenson is the starter at one of the tackle spots along with Branden Albert or Alex Smith is going to get absolutely hammered this next season.

No 29 year old player has ever continued to improve.

Reid has a shitty history developing QB's.

Geno is a lock as a HOF player.

The new regime has shown they are clueless, especially when it comes to QB's.

We've used the same argument for Geno over Alex Smith. Now we can't use it for Joeckel or Fisher over Albert?
