Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

That's the system Greg Roman had the team running. When Kaepernick came in they basically redesigned the offense. A lot of us thought Roman would end up being our HC so I studied him quite a bit. I think it had more to do with them being a defensive powerhouse more so then any limitations of Alex.

I mean, Josh Freeman did the same thing to the Saints defense in his two outings versus it, basically (and was 2-0 vs. them).
Yes, I'm absolutely going to act like leading 2 straight touchdown drives late in the 4th quarter to win the game is great in the playoffs. I don't care who it is, the playoff circumstances make that a great performance.

Their defense seemed to struggle when they didn't have a QB playing ball control. They were pretty dreadful in the playoffs. I think that's something many don't understand. I hear how he can't win when opponents score 24+ but that's because he often "managed" the offense well enough to not let them. Not saying he is the reason that defense played so well, but he did help by keeping the offenses off the field.

With Kaep it was score quick, let them score, then score quick again. With Alex it was run the ball, be efficient, gain the lead and keep the lead. Completely different philosophies.

I'll ask again though. Was Smith struggling before the injury?
No, he was playing like the average game manager he is.

The ol' KAep made the defense worse angel.

Another piece of malarkey made up to prop up Alex Smith. The defens struggled when All Pro Justin Smith got injured and Aldon Smith had a shoulder injury. Also, three of our backup OLBs were on IR so there was only a three man rotation on the OLB.

Alex Smith ball control means three and outs, sacks and a few long boring ass drives that end up in field goals most of the time and are aided by big runs.

Agreed completely. The faster paced your offense is, the longer your defense is likely on the field. Especially when going against tougher opponents.

The defense is on the field longer when the offense consistantly goes three and out and can't convert on third down.

At least when you have big plays you put up points and put pressure on the offense.

There is no difference in time of possession from when Smith played to when KAep played, probably for that reason.

FFS guys, enough with stats. It happened, move on.

The Alex Smith and Matt Cassel trades have some similarities sure. But as far as we know, they aren't going all Matt Cassel contract and donning him king of the franchise. He's a veteran stop gap until they find or groom the guy they want.
