Chiefs ESPN's Bill Williamsons' AFC West Mock Draft - 1st Round - Page 3

AFC West mock draft: Take I

Now that every team in AFC West is done with their 2012 season, here is my first AFC West mock draft for the teams' first-round picks. We will periodically update as we move closer to the April draft:

1. Kansas City Chiefs: DL, Star Lotulelei, Utah: It’s been well documented that there are no great position fits for the Chiefs at this spot. This is a top player who would add even more young talent to this defense.

3. Oakland Raiders: DE, Damontre Moore, Texas A&M: The Raiders will fill a big defensive need no matter where they go, and right now I think Dennis Allen gets a fellow Aggie. The ceiling is high for Moore.

11. San Diego Chargers: CB, Dee Milliner, Alabama: The Chargers’ top need is tackle, but some key players went back to school so I don’t know if there is a fit here. Milliner can be a dynamic player and the Chargers will have a need. San Diego will have options, but I like Milliner here.

28. Denver Broncos: DT, Kawann Short, Purdue: The Broncos will likely take the best available defensive player. Right now, I think it is Short. Denver has gotten better at this position, but it could use some more help.

Given Dorsey's committment to taking the "best player on the board", I can see him moving away from the QB position...and then the Planet imploded.

Dorsey may have a BPA philosophy, but I doubt seriously he won't take any thought to positional need.

If a WR is the BPA for three straight rounds he won't wind up with 3 WR's.

Speaking of wide receivers, I'm really excited to see who we end up with out of this draft. Green Bay has been the best WR drafting team in the NFL over the last 10 years. And this WR class is exciting to me. I see a lot of potential with this group.

For shits and more shits, let's say we cannot draft a QB. Cannot. The league has put a stipulation that we must not and cannot take this position. Essentially, think of it as a normal draft in KC.

To this end, whom do you select #1 overall?

(And you can't trade down like a Pioli.)

Star unless Albert isn't brought back. Move Poe over to 5 tech and play Star at NT. That's all I can think of at the moment, but there might be someone shine at the combine and rise up the boards.

Yeah this was posted before we decided to stay with the 3-4 so I'll give Williamson a slight break on that, but yeah it pretty much goes imo:

Geno Smith
Jarvis Jones
Trade Down
Dee Milliner
Luke Joeckel

Jones is overrated due to lack of functional strength and elite speed. Very instinctive, but he's an exact clone of current Colt and former TCU All-American Jerry Hughes.

Werner is a pure 43 end.

And I like both Dion Jordan and Barkevious Mingo more than Moore. His numbers are really good, but he gets lost a lot in the play and ends up chasing the ball a lot.

Milliner is the most solid player at the biggest position of need (other than QB, but that got ruled out) for the Chiefs. Former #1 ranked HS CB, he's been a force for the Tide. He's really good with prototype size and very good ball skills.

And that's why you draft Geno.

Because you can get a very good CB at the top of round two in either Rhodes, Banks or Amerson. One of those guys is going to be there.

Geno won't.

Forgot completely about Jordan due to alcohol Wyatt, my apologies. Mingo is excellent as well even being a bit smaller than typical OLbs in a 3-4.

I' am guiltily in love with Werner. Despite his lack of fit, I think he's the man.
