Chiefs' Player Jevon Belcher involved in murder-suicide, shoots self at Arrowhead

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

And I bet it's the "he is not the baby daddy rumor" flying around. My guess there was already issues about trusting her to begin with thus an ongoing tension that probably came to light and he just lost it. Nine times means this was passionately personal. He doesn't trust her to begin with, she comes home late and he addresses the issue in the a.m. and quickly becomes a heated fight in which she blurts out , "you are aren't even the daddy". Imagine all the overwhelming negative emotions that must have flooded his heart and mind in that moment from that one comment. Betrayal, Rage, being used, humiliation, embarrassment in front of his mother, etc.......

Was hoping you'd weigh in at some point. I agree with you. There is going to be some serious stuff coming out about both of them and that is what led to this tragedy.

While I'll concede it's likely that drugs and alcohol played some role in yesterday's events, I've never met a professional athlete that could perform at a high level while being in a drunken, drugged out, concussed condition as described in that article.

Hell, I never met anyone in college that could get away with that type of behavior and play any sport.
