Joe Montana shits on Rudy, Dane shits on Joe Montana.

I love this.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...n=ncaaf-268408

Biopic fans will be shocked – shocked! – to learn that Hollywood takes liberties with the real-life narratives and characters that often come to stand in for history in the popular imagination. In the case of the enduring 1993 hit "Rudy," the film was so unrecognizably warped beyond the existence of an undersized Notre Dame player who registered an improbable sack against Georgia Tech in 1975 that former Irish coach Dan Devine called certain scenes – notably the climactic moment when Rudy's teammates confront Devine's villainous character by handing in their jerseys to get Rudy on the dress list, and later his reluctance to actually put Rudy in the game – "unforgivable" and "a lie."

Hall of Famer Joe Montana, then a lowly freshman lingering somewhere on the depth chart, doesn't remember it quite as harshly. But as he told radio host Dan Patrick on Wednesday, he certainly doesn't remember any uplifting strings swelling in the rafters, either:
DP: Were you there when Rudy was there?

JM: Yeah. It's a movie, remember. Not all of that is true.

DP: What wasn't true?

JM: Well, the crowd wasn't chanting. No one threw in their jerseys. He did get in the game. He got carried off [at the end of] the game. [...] Back then they tried to play someone at the end of [the season] that all the seniors could get in the last home game.

The schedule was kind of set that way. So he got in. He did get a sack. And then the guys carried him off, just playing around. I won't say it was a joke, but it was playing around. He worked his butt off to get where he was and to do the things he did. But not any harder than anyone else.
And so reality continues its long unbeaten streak against trumped-up sentiment – not that Rudy Ruettiger minds, now that he's parlayed his 15 minutes into a steady career as motivational speaker and "corporate trainer." I suppose anyone who's able to inspire and sell a bogus feel-good movie about himself being a run-of-the-mill scrub is destined for success.

Although, in fairness, wasn't he the only one of the SB MVPs who didn't come out at SB XL because he wanted some kind of exorbitant fee?

Edit: He was one of three who didn't.

Sources told each paper that Montana asked for a guarantee of at least $100,000 in appearance money.

When the league balked at Montana's demands, the quarterback declined to be in attendance.

I heard a rumer once, after the Super Bowl played in Detroit. He wasn't apart of the Super Bowl MVPs that came out for the opening serimonies. Aparently Joe Montana feels like in some way that the 49ers org. & the NFL did something to piss him off. He feels like he gave his life to the NFL and doesn't owe it a thing. This is just a rumer and I'm probly not even passing it on right.

So what if he is a prick. He was damn good QB and won Championships. He couldn't win it for us so **** him any ways. I love Joe Montana but I hate him at the same time, I'm still a big fan of his. I don't see why some one would hate him for not doing TV though it's his perogitive.

You still don't get it.

Dane hates Joe because he's a prick.

The fact that he hasn't been able to hack it on TV is evidence that he's a prick - no one wants to work with him.

By the way, your spelling is atrocious.

Just for arguments sake, is Jim Kelly a prick? I could be wrong, but I don't think he has any endorsements right now. He has a foundation for his son Hunter who passed away, but that's it.

I mean. Now we have to look at every (former) star athlete that isn't involved in T.V. or other endorsements, and ask if they are dicks.

I get it. He may be a prick, I don't care. Him being a prick and him being the greatest QB of all time are two different things. It's Dane's preogative to hate Joe Montana for him being a prick. I'm going to like Joe Montana for being one of the greatest of all time.

News Flash GoChiefs, I have said manny times I don't spell good. I cheated through out school was a C- average student BFD. I tend to spell words the way they sound to me. Deal with it.

That's great, but the only evidence he's given that he is a prick is that he isn't on T.V. or doing endorsements. Those might be symptoms of his prickery, but they hardly qualify as evidence. Dane seems to take it pretty personally and he said it goes back to the eighties. I am interested to know what personal beef he has with Joe.

As far as the appearance fee, if he didn't want to do it for free and the NFL was going to benefit from his celebrity, why shouldn't he require a fee for his appearance?

He's a douchenugget.

Montana actually had a brief stint with CBS Sports (or maybe NBC) after he retired. But he promptly disappeared and has NEVER been seen again as a TV analyst.

Wonder why?
Because he sucked at that job. Plain and simple.

It must not be a huge grudge against the NFL because he did play flag football for them a few weeks ago.

I suppose Kraft Foods is a no one as well? At least the guy is putting his name on a worthy cause, unlike some real dicks of the former and present NFL who we only see in the news when it's bad.

Joe Montana reminds me of the great baseball pitcher, Steve Carlton. Crazy as hell, pretty aloof, and somewhat reclusive.

From Carlton's biography...

Carlton had a unique relationship with the media. When he struggled early in his career, Carlton remembers the media portrayed him rather harshly. Carlton states, “I got slammed quite a bit. To pick up the paper and read about yourself getting slammed, that doesn’t start your day off right.” This negative view of the press led Carlton to refrain from speaking to the media from 1984 through the end of his career. Sports author Peter Golenbock summarized Carlton’s characteristic personality when he wrote, “Steve Carlton was not your normal guy. On the mound, he would tune out all distractions. Off the mound, he did the same. If he considered you the distraction, he’d direct at you an icy stare. Teammates considered him to be a recluse. He hated to sign autographs. He pissed people off with his stand-offishness and arrogance. One baseball writer wrote, "The two best pitchers in baseball this year don't speak English. One is Fernando Valenzuala, the other is Steve Carlton."

Carlton was also the finest left handed pitcher of his generation.”

Put Montana's name in place of Carlton's and you have the same player in different sports.
