Guy Richie Fans
"RocknRolla" just came out on DVD.
If you're a "Snatch" and "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" fan it just became available on DVD through Netflix. It's of the same vein of the two previously mentioned movies from what I've read but I absolutely loved them both. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1032755/ Supposed to be snowy all day tomorrow and may have to spike the morning coffee and watch this one. "You're a snake in the grass aren't ya Tommy". Review to come |

I watched it earlier and found it a little hard to follow and not that great. There were some decent parts but i was disappointed.

I enjoyed the hell out of it.
Yeah the style may be a bit too similar to his previous two good flicks but I hardly see that as a bad thing. |

Just watched this last night.

I liked it as well. There were a couple of stretches where it dragged, but overall I enjoyed it. Supposedly it's the first of a trilogy. |

Nothing will ever come close to Snatch or Lock, Stock... those 2 are Guy masterpieces. I enjoyed RnR but I won't be watching it time and time again like I do with Snatch and Lock Stock.

Finally got to watch it last night. If you like the two previously mentioned movies you should like this one as well. Guy Ritchie has always been guilty of making a plot unnecessarily convoluted, somewhat difficult to follow and often chooses style over substance. But that’s probably why I love him, it works for him.
"RocknRolla" is no different. I don't want to give away any of the plot so I'll just mention two downsides I found about the film. The movie has a more refined feel to it as opposed to his previous films; it had more of a “Casino Royal” atmosphere than an underground boxing circuit or back room poker operation which I really don't care for in Guy's case. I like the gritty atmosphere of back street London better. It felt like he was trying to appeal more to mainstream – big “no” for his style. My only other problem is that he came off as pushing a gay agenda at one point in the film but he even managed to pull that off rather well as the story developed. I think Madonna may have emasculated him a bit (shocker) but he seems to have come out of it with the majority of his testosterone. If that's all I could find to complain about that's a good thing. 8/10 - Excellent EDIT: Apparently this is the first film of a series. "The Real RocknRolla" is supposedly the next installment.

It's a completely different style, but it revolves (no pun intended) around a very nice, deeply philosophical idea. That idea was the saving grace to me because otherwise the movie borderline sucked...

Layer Cake is a movie made in the same vein as your typical Ritchie movie, the Director Mathew Vaughn helped produce Lock Stock and Snatch. It isn't quite as good as them, but better than RnR. I can't post links yet, but if you copy and just add another w this should work.

"Revolver" is kind of a David Lynch meets Guy Ritchie. Ritchie is one of my favorite directors and I didn't care for it too much. It didn't make me want to gouge my eyes out or anything but I won't be buying the DVD.

Watched it last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. Shame the next 2 installments won't get made probably because the box office totals were pretty bad, and I can't see the studio greenlighting them when he's had a string of flicks not do well at the box office...
