I guess I'm failing to see why you'd think I would want / allow someone else to judge me or control what I said or did, if it didn't violate any laws....

I am all for protecting rights.....

But you don't have a right to not be offended, last I checked.

One person's 'asshole' is another person's hero, and I hope you'll forgive me for insisting that I make that call for myself...and I'll fight to protect your right to do likewise.

It's also amazing to see the extent people will go to to get offended by tame comments that reference race or sexual orientation, just because they want something to cry about.

The world is not fair. It's tough, it's mean, and somewhere down the line, you're gonna get your feelings hurt.
So strap up your boots, put your big boy pants on and grow some thick skin.
I guess you think I'm a hate mongering asshole now. I'm not.

Native American here. No, I don't mean I have a great great great uncle who had a little Cherokee blood either. I have a CDIB card and my dad grew up on a rez. I couldn't give 2 shits about this. It offends me in no way. I can see how it could have been offensive in the past, but it's now just as much a part of sports culture as it is N.A. culture.

You don't understand. If the people who are being discriminated against can't even tell they are being discriminated against, then it is up to us as good, upstanding political-correctors to make them see the light.

If you can't be part of the problem, then quit trying to be part of a solution.

Thank you. The only person in this thread who's opinion on this really matters has spoken.

I usually don't enter theses threads cause nothing ever comes from it, but...

Lakota here...and grew up on the rez. Near Oglala.

I love all the Cherokees in the world as well. Must be a bazillion of them lol.

Anyway, I don't have a problem with the word Chiefs either. Redskins, imo, is pretty derogatory, but to be honest, renaming Washington's team is not going to get the Wasichu to keep a single treaty they signed. It does make the PC crowd feel better so there is that.

Also, I just want to point out that Thatguy recently thought the word, "milieu" was racist.

I don't feel sorry for Washington at all, and this will have no impact on the Chiefs. "Redskins" is obviously a racist team name, and that team deserves all the grief they get.

Another thing that is going on which I don't believe was mentioned, is that in a separate lawsuit, the Redskins may soon lose their trademark protection. I can't imagine the NFL would put up with losing economic licensing control over one of their teams.

Sometimes I think it's weird when they want to change any college nickname that references chiefs or Indians, etc. It seems counterproductive to me - why do you want your culture pushed further into obscurity? Most times the name doesn't seem disrespectful.
But I can see why someone would not appreciate the name Redskins.
